Poetry

I love stories and prose just as much as any writer would. Yet, I feel deep down that I'm a poet at heart. I love everything about the craft.

I'm in the middle of writing a novel (though I haven't started the next chapter yet and it's been quite some time since I've worked on the novel) and a few short stories. The vast majority of my writing is poetry.

I like to challenge conventions, both established and my own. I enjoy reading others work, especially if I feel the writing is as good or better than my own.

Just wanted to see if there were any others who feel as passionate about poetry as I do. Who take the craft seriously.

I can't say I'm passionate about the genre, but I do feel moved to express something in a poem or a song rather than as prose. I think of genres as tools, where one type is more suited to a given task than another... screwdrivers can be used as awls, or wrenches as hammers, but they won't be as good for the job as a more appropriate tool might be.

I'm accused of blurring the line between prose and poetry, and I plead guilty. But pending a really good definition of poetry what poetry is and what it's not (a topic endlessly debated in the previous forum), I'll claim ignorance.
