Questions and comments about rules and how the board works

so do I , and not really at all in your writing in the workshop. In terms of how you communicate no ones going to be too offended if you don't tear the fucken ass outa that shit :D

we're not currently planning an erotica board because they are a big pain to moderate how far is too far...but if theres a big demand for it along with someone who wants to be the section mod we might look at it down the road
Good to know! Thank you.

I totally understand and can see how it would be a nightmare. I seem to recall Wreybies being quite annoyed by it frequently. I'll just leave those parts out of anything I post unless there's more interest or something.

Will you be bringing back the monthly writing contests? (apologies if I missed them somewhere)

Yes, definitely. We still have some things to sort out, like the anonymizer and medal engine, but it's top of the list once we get everyone off the lifeboats. We'll start a discussion thread about that soon to get everyone's ideas. I'd like to make them better if possible.

Naturally, if we earned our way through longevity and participation to signature links on the old board and we use the same name, we're grandfathered into the privilege on this one — right? Only fair.

For people like me who rarely make drive- by quips, 100 posts is a long, long time, while for those who flit around, it can be the work of a couple of days — as evidenced by the co-requirement of at least 30 days.

It took me close to four years on the old board to reach only 258 posts+replies, but some of those were meaty and provocative.

Seems like a perfect situation for discretionary application.

End of the day forums need good quality content . Things like the ability to advertise your books in your sig are a perk for those who create that content.

so why should someone who only comes in occasionally and doesn’t create much get those perks grand fathered in?

we may look at some perks for the veterans of the OG site ( like a special badge or something) but the main bits of the forum will be transparent and one rule for everyone

What is the resource section of the forum and how do we use it? It is for research links, or information? What should I be using it for?

Resources is lkind of what it sounds like … tbh I’m not sure we’ll keep it on… on the OG site it was hardly used

Good to know. I can see the up and down side of it. So, I will refrain from posting there for the time being.

They're supposed to be "special." More title and body than thread style. Like Moose said, relatively redundant. The Xenforo software appears to be primarily tailored to product and review style websites.

At the moment, it's only possible to post in the "Clothing" resources category, anyway.

There no category for posting about for instance language references.

A full subforum for language references, or references/resources generally, might indeed be more useful, with one thread per resource. One could imagine quite a bit of discussion about The Elements of Style, for instance. It might even prove too divisive a topic.

As I said we haven’t set up yet and may well not … there probably better uses for that header real estate. If you have writing resources you’d like to share put them in threads on general discussion

If hey are more factual things that might be useful to the community put them in research

Non commercial links are fine in that regard

I believe anything added as an attachment to posts gets added as a resource.

Nope if it’s an image it may well be added to the gallery or something

A question: On the old forum, I put a URL in my sig line to steer people to my non-profit blog of miscellaneous works. Will that still be allowed?

When you get to active member 30 days 100 posts you can have two links in your sig. these can be to personal websites etc or to book sales pages, magazines with articles you’ve written etc. they can’t be to anything that breaks our rules or to anything spammy

Well, you've already seen the link on the old forums, and I haven't received any complaints about it. As for the 100-post rule, I don't suppose you could count the almost 2000 posts from the other site, could you? And there are probably a lot more of us "old timers" who have drifted over to this site and might be wondering the same thing.

Sorry everyone is starting fresh here it’s the only fair way

If you’ve got published work you want link now you can put one link per thread in the success stories forum

I’m going to talk to homey and the team about allowing links for the member category 14 days and 20 posts, but end of the day forums live or die by their content and the ability to link your work is a reward for creating that content.

We can’t give it to new members without being badly abused by spam, and whatever we do needs to be fairly applied to all

Is my internal link to the RP forum okay? I didn’t think about it at the time. (Sorry)

Understood. I'll just be patient.
