A thread for all those questions and comments that are inevitable in any new place
Just double-checking that Workshop posts aren't visible to non-logged in members. Sorry to be paranoid about this. I've spent quite a lot of time on the thing I want to post in there, and don't want to accidently disqualify it from submissions.
Hmm, the character limit is 10,000 which is lower than the old forum. It's restricting as far as posting completed work for critique, but I know 2000 words is optimal for getting feedback. Ah well.
In the rules, unauthorized advertising is not allowed, which is understandable. I have a question about our published texts and work, will there be an area where you are allowed to share links to your published works? This could be for forum members who have been members for x time. To keep away one-off spammers.
Question two:
Are you allowed to share your homepage or personal website/social media page on your profile or somewhere?
we're going to change it when we work out how - 10k is the xen foro default... incidentally it was alwayts 10k on the old forum too it was just that the restriction didn't work after 2022

for now if you want to post something longer than 10k characters split it over two posts
Cool, thanks! Glad to know.no problem with fan fic so long as you acknowledge that its fan fic... I can't imagine gene rodenburry getting up in our shit about it, not least because he's dead, but if a writer did request we remove fan fics of their specific works we would likely do so
you can change it in your profile...again we'll have to look at how we change the defaultsIt seems like that we get emails about new posts by default, which wasn't the case for the old forum. Are there plans to keep it that way?
I get the language thing, but irl I curse like a sailor on leave and I tend to lean heavily toward morally gray characters who often share that proclivity. So how heavily do I need to edit my stories? (I'm usually very good about editing myself)

Edit: Also - will there be an age gated section at any point for erotica and the stuff that we don't want kids reading, or will that not be a possibility in this new one?
we're not currently planning an erotica board because they are a big pain to moderate how far is too far...but if theres a big demand for it along with someone who wants to be the section mod we might look at it down the road
I saw that and I immediately thought "Well.... maybe not"Amusingly, someone's posted a rather poorly written sex story on the old forum, now that the adults have left the room.
