Rejection, rejection, rejection...

The main story I’ve been shopping around this summer landed an acceptance. I don’t know if you frequented the old Rejection, Rejection, Rejection thread on the old .org, but that’s what the smilies were for.
I wasn't on the old forum. Congrats though, that's wonderful!

Thanks! This one was mercifully fast: three rejections and a few months out on sub before an acceptance on what I believe was the fifth submission (which means there are also some withdrawal notices to send).

It couldn’t be a starker contrast to a different story I sold this year, which spent three and a half years on sub with over a dozen rejections. Glad I decided to roll the dice with simultaneous submissions this time.

Snagged a couple more. A quick 2-day from Orion's Belt (they're open til Aug. 31 - go submit!) and a 67-day form letter from Just Keep Up Magazine (for a trunk story - they don't pay much). We're up to 91 rejections.

Sort of a result. 64 day shortlisted rejection by Cosmic Roots & Eldritch Shores, with an invitation to rewrite and resubmit. That's the furthest I've got in a submission process so far. I'll revise and resubmit in their next open window next month.

What do the publish? I haven't heard of them before and I can't find them online.
Correction: it was Carmine Pen. They’re a little boutique romance publisher. Currently closed to fiction submissions, but the pay isn’t bad for romance/love/erotic poetry.

93 now.

Got a very quick 2-day form rejection from Seize The Press Magazine (I just can't get the right story at the right time to them!), and a surprising 284-day rejection from Meetinghouse Magazine. That's gotta be one of the longest waits I've had for shorts submissions.

I don't think I'll ever end up writing a story suitable for Seize the Press.

I am definitely feeling the same haha. This was the 6th story I've sent them. I'll keep trying whenever I've got something I think might be a good fit.

Two more just came in early this week. Diabolical Plots said no thanks after 48 days, and Uncanny Magazine passed after 14.

We're up to 95. I'd really love one more acceptance before the year's out. Plenty of places will be opening up this month for subs, and I do still have a few stories that I think are worthy of placement on sites and pages, in exchange for a few pence.

Got a 156-day form rejection from Strange Horizons last night. Also a form rejection from Planet Scumm for a story I submitted way back on Feb. 1, was published elsewhere, and so I'd sent them an email to withdraw it. Guess I won't count that one.

I need to clean up my list a little, so I'll close some of these off as No Response: it's been 420 days since I submitted a novel to Flame Tree Press, 364 since I sent it to Dundurn Press, same for Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine. Pulling the plug on this Infinite Worlds submission from 329 days ago - more like Infinite Waits. Five more indie press ones from 231-238 days out; EDGE, Rising Action, Renaissance Press, Guernica Editions, and Aethon. And a couple more magazines I never heard back from, Heroic Fiction Quarterly and Wyldblood.

That brings me up to March of this year. I'll let the rest cook for a couple more months before I do some more tidying up. We're up to 107 for the year now.

EDIT - very strange, but Heroic Fiction Quarterly sent me a form rejection mere hours after I marked the submission as Never Responded in Duotrope. 217 days! Can't be a coincidence, maybe they keep an eye on such things.
