Money isn’t really the issue tbh .., add ons aren’t expensive. The issue is that blogs
a) have the potential to canablise the forum with topics that could have been good threads instead getting hidden away
b) are a massive pain in the nuts to moderate and attract spam like flys round shit
They also just felt super unintuitive to navigate on the old site? They felt sequestered off into their own little corner that you had to know where to look to find.
Agreed! I think that blogs are meant to be on a different type of platform. And also, as stated by one of the mods (I think Moose) is that blogs on old .org were also places where debates were created. I think using a progress journal for personal thoughts also works, but that's just me.
Certain people abused them as a way of getting round the rules. Part of that issue was that Daniel was a libertarian and wouldn’t let us moderate them properly, I believe in the right to freedom of expression but that isn’t the same as the right to be an annoying pillock in private venues
Hahaha. Yeah, the whole site needs to be moderated! Yes, there is a huge difference between public and private spaces. My biggest issue with the blogs were, no one really read them and I like feedback. I also thought the excessive amount of tags was a pain and I think there is a healthy solution for all.
Will there be a writer's showcase like on the old forum?
Maybe in time. We’re also toying with the idea of a curated webpage or some sort of zine to which members could submit work… but that’s a little way off yet as we need to get the basics right first

I was going back and downloading all my blog entries (some of them were thought-out and backed up, others were typed out directly onsite in moments of inspiration, and I have no record of which is which) and was quite surprised at the numbers I had. Yes, over the course of years, but over a thousand hits on some entries. Bots maybe? Dunno, but there was traffic there.
Regarding the logo, I have some graphic designers in the family who are going to hook me up. Banners for the Forum, shit for social media, whatever it is we need. It's gonna be a bit before I can connect, but I'll get it done.

(I have an "eyedrop" extension downloaded on my computer. This is the Hex its showing for the dark mode blue color: #0a1c2a)
the thing is i eye dropped it to get that background so it should be the same... all is not lost though there is a way of making the background take its tone from the logo image - just so i can rememember how
