The Jade Empire - OOC Thread

@Whiskii @ellekaldwin @buttercream

I've added Emperor Yu and two new characters - members of the Immortal Brothers of the Mountains - as well as an entry into the Lore thread for the Brothers. The descriptions are as of yet rather sparse, but I expect they'll be broadened before long.

we need to decide who are the main characters and who are supporting characters?

Whose story is this?

The ones that seem to stand out to me are Jiàn Lù and Rennie

Hello, just wondering if anyone had any thoughts about this?

Hello, just wondering if anyone had any thoughts about this?

Oops, seem to have missed it.

I'm of the same opinion. I knew Jiàn was main character material halfway through first reading her character profile, and Rennie's proven himself important the past several entries. Their respective arcs seem to have the most to offer, though I'm also excited for Tala's, Min's, and Bertrand's. And whatever's cooking up with Shan over there!

I missed it too. I think all of the characters we started with (Rennie, Daiyu, Jian, Tala, Shaohua and now Min and Bertrand) are all main characters in their own ways. Rennie and Jian stand out because I think they're the defacto 'leaders' of the group. It took a while for all of them to finally link up, so now I'm looking forward to when Shan is finally introduced to the group (if that happens) and for the new old timers (I mean that in a nice way) to join the fun.

New entry is up!

Absolutely incredible! I loved it, especially the twists! It was riveting! Made my heart beat faster, as I swept along!

One little thing I should mention - in the entry, you have Daiyu in the cave - but she is outside of it with Rennie?

You're right! I knew something was off. Let me fix that and then it should be good.

I'm sorry for the delay! I'm having a bit of trouble getting to where I want to go. The words do not want to word. If not later today, my entry will be up sometime tomorrow.

No problem, take your time!

My post is finally up! Sorry it took so long!

I'm not entirely satisfied with it, but I managed to accomplish everything I wanted. This is what I made Shaohua for! It feels nice to finally make good use of him.

Excited to see where @Whiskii takes us!

Just clarifying, is he dead?

Just clarifying, is he dead?

No, don't worry! You can injure him if you want, though.

I'd like to think there's another nonviolent way to stop the lion someone came up with while Shaohua worked to calm it down. I feel like fighting a Guardian Spirit wouldn't be a good idea, you know? But, hey, whatever happens, happens.

@Whiskii - how is the post entry coming along?

Hello everyone! I have recently collaborated with @Louanne Learning to create a character. Before I start going crazy, I wanted to see what everyone else thinks, what changes I should make, and how he relates to the story and other characters. The profile is below.

Name: Zǐhuǒ

Male or female: Male

Age: 72 years

Chinese, British, American or French?: Human-echo-machine hybrid

Physical appearance:
He has elongated limbs and the like, because he has adapted to the belief that unnatural and bizarre things strike fear of the unknown into the hearts of humans, and therefore he uses that to his advantage. His frame is tall and unnervingly thin, joints bending just a little too far, fingers a little too long, movements just slightly delayed. He has several clockwork, ethereal elements to him, as if trying to be modern and struggling to achieve that goal. Beneath thin, almost translucent skin, faint ticking can be heard, and the slight outline of steampunk gears turning where organs should be can sometimes be seen.

He looks a lot like a human at first glance, but just something about him is just wrong – long limbs, a strange face that seems almost correct yet slightly misaligned. Clockwork mechanisms whir softly in his chest, and brass and iron components replacing flesh and bone in places, while an ethereal, otherworldly aura surrounds him. He exists in that uncanny space between man and machine, never fully belonging to either.

Backstory:

When a spirit wishes to intersect with an echo-machine, things are meant to go right.

Not in the case of Zǐhuǒ.

Decades ago, the man that Zǐhuǒ once was became eager to heighten his power, to better his life. Fusing with an echo-machine was the obvious answer. The transformation idea was simple.

The actual transformation was not.

Something predatory, ancient, and unknown had fractured within the machine long before it was too late. Human emotions and moral code collided with sheer predatory, survivalist instinct. Whatever was in that echo-machine had perhaps been waiting for him.

And now, they were one.

Personality:

Quiet, calculating, and aloof to humans, he tries to act normal, to no avail. When machine, predator and man collide, one thing is certain: instability is inevitable.

Other information:

Not many know what he is, who he is, or why he is here, but rumors are spread faster than wildfires, saying he may be a force of nature, a monster, or perhaps a genetically engineered human.

Not many know that he is the sum of all three.

I think Zǐhuǒ would make an awesome addition to the story

@ellekaldwin @buttercream @Whiskii - we are especially looking for ways that we can integrate this new character into our story.

Should we connect him sometime in the past with Tobais Locke? Or the Immortal Brothers of the Mountain? Or??

Or start him on a separate narrative arc that eventually intersects with established arcs?
