The Jade Empire - OOC Thread

Is it still possible to join this roleplay? It looks like there are spots free. I suppose I'll have to wait for Louanne since she's GM.

It certainly is! Thank you for your interest!

the first step would be to message me with your character profile (create a new character) using this template -

I think I'm about 50% through the story. It is very fun. Now I'm just sad I didn't come by sooner.

I have a character idea already but I need to refine it a bit to see how she slots into the current story and dynamic. Should I send you a draft character sheet now or a more complete one once I'm finished reading?

We can begin a conversation about it, if you'd like, in messages, or you can send it to me when it's done. Totally up to you. :)

We welcome to our story Sarantsatsral (meaning moonbeam), called Saran (sehr-ran)! - character created by @Tallyfire

I am very interested in meeting this wise, older woman with a "steam-powered kick."

@Tallyfire has indicate they are willing to discuss ideas about how we might introduce Saran into the story

I suggested she might become like a surrogate mother to our orphaned novice-monk Shan. Perhaps, they can meet on the road. Saran seems a person of the solid earth, and Shan, as we know, is the embodiment of "Great Earth"

But what other ideas might you all have? Should Saran first meet up with a different character? Who? And how?

Let's brainstorm

I think Saran meeting Shan first could be good...especially since we're heading that direction. I do think also we should, I don't know, let some characters go? I'm not sure what to do with ones that were created by writers who are no longer involved with the story.

Good idea. I have deleted the character Zǐhuǒ, created by Username, who never made an appearance into the story, from the index.

That leaves Min and Bertrand to be written out of the story. Something for all of us to keep in mind.

The temporary rotation change is perfect. I'm doing Camp NaNoWriMo this month and could probably balance the two without issue but wasn't sure I wanted to try lol.

Saran will be a great addition to the story! +1 on having her meet Shan first. Also love her being a motherly figure for him. Boy needs some nurture.

Not that I think anyone here is considering it, but I wouldn't feel comfortable taking the easy way out and killing them off. We'll have to figure out how to have them drop out of the hunt willingly. I guess this means we need to speed up their character and relationship arcs?

Agreed. They will exit willingly.

@Tallyfire - if you have any questions about the plot or the characters, please do not hesitate to ask us about it

I’m done!

I really enjoyed the last few entries. So many exciting developments. (I especially liked Liath.) I’m entering in a really good part of the story.

I guess one thing to consider in your parts is if Saran should arrive at the monastery before the rest. I can imagine she does and settles in for bit, gets to know Shan.

I’m also wondering how she’ll gel with him religiously — I didn’t add it in the character sheet but I figured she’d follow Tibetan Buddhism in daily life. She might find the Immortal Brothers a bit dubious (which might be fun, to be honest).

Anyway, I’m excited to read the next instalments and I’ll follow where you go!
