Today I learned...

Today I learned that male reindeer lose their antlers in winter, but female reindeer do not.

So, Santa's sleigh was actually pulled by females.

Today I learned that the Royal Automobile Club deemed Richard Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries the most dangerous song to listen to while driving because because of the way it distorts perception and your sense of time.

How Music Hijacks Our Perception of Time

I'm not sure what the feminine of Rudolph is?

I looked this up, and Rudolfa is a feminine variant of the name Rudolf. It has its roots in the Germanic name Hrodulf, which was derived from the elements hruod meaning "fame" and wolf ... meaning, well, "wolf". Therefore, the name Rudolph/Rudolfa can be interpreted to mean "famous wolf" or "famous warrior."

You could also consider names like Ruby, Ruth, or even Rudi (a common nickname for Ruth, although the name 'Ruth', of course, has very different origins).

One of the best imports from the US is Krispy Kreme donuts.
We live in Dunkin country here but only for the coffee. Donuts are the domain of boutique bakeries now. Some of them the size of a wheelbarrow tire, weighing 3 lbs. There are at least 6 or 7 doughnut only bakeries just in my town, which, allegedly, has more coffee and donut shops per capita than any other city in the world. That methodology is of course subject to debate.

For coffee, I actually prefer McDonald's to Tim Horton's.

We've got a fancy-shmansy bakery in town where you can get donuts for about $40 /dozen! They are very popular.

Yes, they are good, everything costs a lot these days, but I can get a pretty good donut at the grocery story for a lot less.

Formally Bess Eaton here before Hortons bought all of them, created in Westerly, RI where my family is from. The founder was a born again Christian who dated my mother in the 1960s and was a literal **** hair from being my dad.
Are those asterisks replacing RCH?

Today I learned that three scholars—Andrey Anikin, Nikolay Aseyev and Niklas Erben Johansson—recruited 820 people from three different language groups—Chinese, English and Semitic (Arabic, Hebrew and Maltese speakers)—to listen to clips representing 228 languages and rate the languages’ attractiveness.

The highest-rated was Tok Pisin, an English creole spoken in Papua New Guinea.

Today I learned that, in Ontario, door-to-door sales are banned, under law.
