Today I learned that the Ontario government will allow alcohol sales beginning at 6 am tomorrow morning as Canada's men's hockey team competes for Olympic gold. The gold medal game starts at 8:10 a.m. ET on Sunday.

I prefer to keep Granite Cradle in the 90s/early 00s as that's muh bread and butter, although I would have to alter various aspects. Not quite a fan of bringing this story into the modern era. So the insight I came to is...Sean's trilogy will always give me a headache. But I enjoy writing the character.

On the other hand, there are aspects to Granite Cradle's location that help give it a rustic vibe anyway.

Anything without smartphones has better narrative possibility in my opinion. People can actually get lost driving, commit crimes without being tracked, and not instantly know things without Google at their thumbs. I like writing in the 80s when there were landlines and no Internet at all. Just having a car that can break down in the winter with no way to call for help is literary "gold."

I seem to have an aversion to including smartphones in most works. But overall, just the general vibe isn't immersive. 90s/early 00s is 'home' for me in the writing sense.

80s vibe can work too. Or 70s.

Um ... drinking beer (and maybe even getting drunk) on Sunday morning will help Team Canada? :-\

I wonder how this will work for people who go to church. I can just imagine some people sitting in a pew, with half-an-ear to the sermon and the rest to a little portable radio, getting drunker and drunker and waving cans of Molson at the minister/reverend/priest/etc.

I have less than you, lol. The point is to live. Realistically, tomorrow could be the last day and you wouldn't know it, so you just do the things. All the things. Laugh and fail and try again. You're gonna be here anyway, may as well enjoy yourself.

Which also means that you will be able to afford future immortality drugs. Which may mean that you will have far more than 14 000 days left. Which in turn means more books to write, more money to make, more immortality drugs. And the cycle continues.
