What made me happy today?

All the items I had on my to-do list for today have been completed without any interruptions 😀
Nice. That's really satisfying. I'm assuming your to do list wasn't simply 'finish to do list' :)

My first ever carnivorous plants arrived today... happy new discovery for me and another step in my war on flies and midges. I usually leave the spiders to it but they have really let me down this year.

I'm happy because, over lunchtime, I had a sudden inspiration. ;) I just couldn't resist the idea, nor could I resist the mental image of someone singing these lyrics to the backbeat of the original. *grin*

So, I took ten minutes over lunch to write this as an exercise. Hope you enjoy.

(to the tune of "Viva Las Vegas" by Elvis Presley)

Old red dragon gonna set my Rolls--
Gonna set my Rolls on fire!
And then insurance gumshoes gonna nose around,
and baby, I'm no liar!
I certainly won't tell them 'tis insurance fraud,
and neither will you do it, so stay mum, be told;
I summoned dragon for my dirty work, 'twas bold--
So

Viva the dragon!
Viva the dragon!

Now it was banished by a few magicians, but
I'm gonna let it out for free!
And once it is outta there, just imagine how--
just how grateful it will be!
And I will turn it into my own biggest fan
And it will work for me though I've no dental plan
And if it wouldn't do it, I will kick its can
So

Viva the Dragon!
Viva the Dragon!

Viva the Dragon with his nostrils flarin';
he'll flame off, not carin'
just what he might hit next!
Viva the Dragon turnin' cars into black bits
to the strain and the backbeats
of the background music
and the sizzlin' flavour text!

The dragon will be mascot for my restaurant,
with a "Dragon Hollywood" theme!
I'll charge a lot of money for a flame-grilled burger,
that has always been my dream!
Its name will be McDragon's and I have a hunch
that fancy would-be heroes will be there for lunch;
If dragy-boy wants cash, I'll beat him to the punch
So

Viva McDragon's!
Viva McDragon's!
Viva McDragon's!
Viva, viva McDragon's!

Cool!.........Pitcher plants??
Yes! Very new to me. Apparently these ones will also live outside happily too, even in the farthest corners of the UK, but I'm finding it hard to reconcile with my preconceptions about all flytrap plants being tender. They're doing a good job on all the little gnats so far but the houseflies aren't falling for it yet. I have placed them on my main fly highway but maybe I need to put up a little arrow sign saying 'Flies eat free' or something so they stop by.

Maybe a sign that says "Nude Dancing Flies" next exit.

Today is when the summer heat kicked in for me. Looks like we'll have 35 degrees Celsius tomorrow and for the rest of the week.

Something weird that I noticed is how the sky had a really intense yellow colour during sunset. That's highly unusual for here. Let the hot days roll, I guess. I don't have AC so this is going to be fun!

I'm going to have to crank open my laptop and clean the fans. The warranty sticker can take a hike because it's soon over anyway.

yellow sky in the med is usually dust from the sahara being blown into the upper atmosphere, other times its smoke from wildfires or dust from volcanoes

Yeah, we call that "νοτιας", and I'm not a huge fan of it. You know it happens when half of the population has cars covered in dry mud, which won't come off unless you scrub with soap, so many procrastinate and you now have horrible looking cars everywhere.

We had one of those about two months ago when it rained hard. I woke up the next day to find that everything from the balconies to the yard were now covered in a thick layer of mud. It took hours to clean. This one was especially bad.

But I don't think it was quite that. It was a weird twilight effect that probably had to do with heat.

My singing teacher wanted to challenge me and gave me a list of possible songs. I wanted to work on one of them, but I couldn't figure out how to make it feel natural. So, I messaged her today about a different song and I am excited to sing this- even without all the alternate notes. There is no way I will be singing Ab6. But the sheet music only requires a D#6/Eb6. Which is a note I want to work on. Also, this song somehow fit more naturally with my abilities. So excited.

Ah, the beauty of enharmonics. Is it a natural key or a flat key in the diatonic? Is it the augmented 4th in modal (Lydian) or the flat 5th (Locrian)? Is the melody pointing up (D#) or pointing down (Eb)? I'm not sure how often any of that comes up in the choral world but it can become mission critical in the guitar world. Same note but how it functions in the harmonic soup changes the approach to the song. Actually, I'd imagine it's the same for both.

I'm dealing with an E# right now in a piece my guitar teacher just emailed me. Not an F--god forbid!--because it's an augmented 6th walking up to tonal center G. And not a flat 7th because it hits the major 7th of F# next. Buuuuut... it's also not considered a chromatic run because the G chord it points to is functioning as the flat 6th chord of B minor. If it were a jazz tune, it would be a different story, as the keys often change several times in a single measure. It's a classical Etude by Fernando Sor, and classical follows rigid diatonic keys and suicidal fealty to proper structure most of the time.

It all makes my head spin.

Yeah, it's always a mess. I will be honest, I don't know much about music theory or harmonics. I don't know what key this song is in, but I know it's fun to sing. I don't know much about the choral world as I am a solo singer who just likes singing operettic songs. I lost my mind during the French Olympics when that lady started singing Carmen. But anyway, I am not sure which it should be. If I count up or down when it's a half-note like that. Eb6 sounds more impressive, but also flat? Haha.

Dude, I think my brain just died. Different types of music use different note names for intervals? And oh, please post a video of the song. I want to hear it.
