What made me happy today?

Today I'm happy to celebrate the cloud. I can't stand cloud based applications. That doesn't change the fact we are far safer because of it.

It was on this day in 1836 that the US Patent Office burned. As with the destruction of the library at Alexandria, humanity suffered an intellectual loss we have yet, 189 years later, fully recovered.

Today we are blessed with the advantage of technology. The cloud keeps our great repositories of knowledge and culture secure from harm through the magic of offsite backups and geologically diverse hosting. No longer can our wealth of knowledge disappear in a cloud of smoke.

TikTok is safe.

Here's a good one, a little bit obvious once you see it. Being of shallow perception, I never had.

Museum and muse have the same ancient greek etymology. Museum can be interpreted as "shrine of the muse."

One week, terribly long ago, my Mom took me to the Texas Museum of Natural History. Each day we explored one floor. Back at home there would be books and flash cards about the subject matter we saw that day.

A shrine of the muse, indeed, tour conducted by a guardian angel.

Some theorize the exact opposite, that our iteration of civilization will be the first to leave no cultural artifacts because their media are ephemeral.

Very true. In fact, in ancient Greek, the word for "museum" is mouseion (Μουσεῖον), the same word used to this day in Hebrew.

The Mouseion of Alexandria (Ancient Greek: Μουσεῖον τῆς Ἀλεξανδρείας; Latin: Musaeum Alexandrinum), which arguably included the Library of Alexandria, was an institution said to have been founded by Ptolemy I Soter and his son Ptolemy II Philadelphus. Originally, the word mouseion meant any place that was dedicated to the Muses, often related to the study of music or poetry, but later associated with sites of learning such as Plato's Academy and Aristotle's Lyceum.

Glad you had such a good time. :) When I started thinking about my trips abroad (to England and to Italy), one of the first things I looked up were some museums and art galleries to visit. They're always full of interesting things to see.

I want a dudeum.
I read that as duodenum. I sincerely apologize, both to you and to hard working jejunums everywhere.

The jejunum is the part of the intestines fed by the duodenum, apparently named for the mouth-full profanities the jejunum is said to mumble while being forced to feast on the duodenum's scat. I didn't mean to trivialize the plight of the jejunum.

We can be so cruel to ourselves.

More jalapeños? Sure, don't mind if I do, and please 'scuse the gut rumbles.

This. This made me happy today.

In general, I laughed more today than I have in a while. I stopped at the store after work to get some stuff for the work Christmas party tomorrow, and on my way to the check-out, this tiny girl kept putting the wet floor sign in front of her mom's cart and giggling whenever she got caught.

There's hope for civilisation yet.

Huzzah! :) I'm very glad your cat is on the mend, Luxuria.

Cats will save civilization. (Or replace it with their own). All hail their feline majesty! ;)

Thank you! He seems much more cheerful and happy. Which is wonderful.

That sounds like a very cuddly world. I want to visit.

I GOT 200/200 ON MY FINAL HISTORY TIMED EXAM.
OMFG. It was a ride. I submitted with 2 minutes and counting down left. It was a lot. So, all I have is 1 more little paper assignment and I'm done for the semester. But thank the Gods I know so much about Rome. Because I sprinted through those questions. It was a lot. But I did it and did it well!

It was never in doubt. :) Congratulations!

I still have a couple of days to go. One of the module tutors put out a super easy assignment that I naturally had an easy time doing, which confused the hell out of me and caused me to think that I was doing something really wrong for a week straight. MT later confirmed that it really was supposed to be that easy.

I'm just getting some reports finished at this point and then I'll have some time off. I really need it. All I've been doing these past couple of weeks is stay up late every single day staring at computer code!
