What made me unhappy today ?

If the jelly doesn't work out, can you turn it into some sugary syrup? I'm not familiar with quince but maybe you can use it to drizzle on pancakes. And that's too bad about the freezer. I've had power outages spoil my groceries before.
True, I could. But I really want jelly. Checked it last night after the 24 hour resting period was up. Runny. I might also try reboiling it with more sugar and pectin. That's four perfectly-good canning lids into the recycling, but that's how it goes.

I've got a service tech coming to replace the thermostat in the new Frigidaire on Thursday. Apparently they get lots of calls for that. At least it's under warranty, and I have the deep freeze in the basement for backup.

Where I live it's important to know how to cook well, especially for women, if you don't, get out of the way. I like cooking when I'm not pressured.

Ended up awake most of the night and now feel tired and don't wanna do schoolwork, but I must. So... history it is.

I think my semester record was 20 history books? One of the Roman courses had 5 and I think there was a Mexican one that had 4. The other 11 were spread between the other three.

Wow, that's a lot of books. I have 1 right now for my history class and 1 reading for the week. Although, it's 17 pages, which isn't that long. But my brain is broken today from lack of sleep. So just trying to do what's easiest.

I found a typo in one of my drabbles immediately after submitting five of them to an anthology.

Fortunately, it’s not a catastrophic one—a “the” instead of a “to” in the second to last sentence—but still more than a little mortifying.

A history book ... that's 17 pages??? What kind of history can be written in such a short space? It doesn't sound very deep.

Ouch.

That could be a whole 'nother thread--- "What are your common typos?" I sometimes fumble-finger "to" into "the," myself.

It is an excerpt I have been assigned to read.

Oh, OK. For a second there, I thought it was the entire book. ;) Whoops! Sorry. :giggle:

Speaking of history and 17 pages, I once wrote a 17-page essay about Rasputin. Since his life and death had so much influence on 20th-century culture, I wanted to try and test whether his influence on Russian politics made that much difference, too.

(My conclusion: no. The Russian Revolution was more-or-less bound to happen, but Rasputin's involvement simply made it happen faster, and with greater virulence).

Yup, 5 for Rome which I still have. Livy, Sallust, Tacitus, Marcellinus, and Cicero. Massive grains of salt on all of them as their accounts are unsupported and unverifiable.

I occasionally go looking on Amazon for more picture books for my kid, and the dead-eyed, slightly-off AI-produced picture books are appearing more and more (publication date 2025 onwards). The thought of so many kids soaking up bad art makes me sad.

I haven't found a way to filter them out, so this will probably be the nail in the coffin for my Amazon book purchases. I'd already switched over to local companies for most orders, but Amazon search is now also useless.
