Today at the hairdresser's there was a man who was talking about his daughter's trip to Ireland. He said that she said the very best hot dog she had ever had in her life she had at the Guinness brewery in Dublin. (They put some kind of special Guinness sauce on it.)

(Sits up straight, startled by the mention of Guinness sauce. Up until then, I was happily imagining an Irish wolfhound who rested at the feet of beer drinkers.)

We got two inches of rain over the last couple of days. That's a full sixth of our annual rainfall all in one swoop.

The area also gets an average annual snowfall of 73 inches, but it mostly blows sideways and wears itself out before it can pile up.

In the mood to play both Breath of the Wild and Horizon Zero Dawn again.

"So why don't you?" y'all ask?

My PS4 and Wii U are both in the attic and I can't be arsed to crawl up there and find the consoles right now. :p

Is there any benefit to have a landline over a cell phone?

I have both, and am thinking of getting rid of the landline.

We abandoned our landline a couple of years ago after having the same number for well over 40 years. We'd kept it as a business line, but it was expensive and 98% of the calls were spam. That latter was the main reason we finally abandoned it. I mainly miss it because now I have no alternative number to give to out to keep my cell phone strictly private. We've talked about getting a burner for that purpose, but haven't done anything about it due to expense.

I'm also thinking about all the contacts, accounts, etc, that I would have to change my number on!

It's a wee bit of a pain, but not as bad as I thought it would be. Most things I changed as they came up. For business, I sent out emails and had new business cards printed. I think I minded all those unused old cards the most. I keep trying to think of some kind of art project that uses out of date business cards.

I think I may get around to it. I get my phone, TV, internet services from Bell Canada and the bill has just been steadily climbing.

One of my To DO list items is changing internet service. The one we have is expensive and increasingly undependable.

My service is pretty reliable, but I have no idea why it has gone up so much in the last year

It's kind of a longevity thing. My folks have had their landline for 50 years. More importantly, people they know have had their landline number for 50 years, so you never know who might reach out for the first time in 30 years. Usually it's when one of the distant cousins calls to say somebody died.

My husband comes from a small town in North Dakota. He once called his brother, but transposed a couple of number while dialing. Ended up in a half hour conversation with a friend of their dad's that he hadn't talked to in twenty years.

I only once ever got an obscene phone call. It was over 30 years ago. I was sleeping and the phone woke me up. The guy on the other end started talking dirty and it took me a minute to realize it was not my husband and I quickly hung up. I was shaken!

It's frightening to get calls like that, especially when one is abruptly jolted out of sleep and vulnerble to to the psychological attack. I was unlucky enough to attract a couple of stalkers when I was in my early twenties. I'm not sure if getting their phone calls was harder or easier because I knew who they were. One was a co-worker who backed off when an imposing mutual acquaintance warned him it wasn't in his best interest to continue hassling me. The other was a friend's husband who had a thing for dancers. Awkward. That stalking didn't end until I moved out of town and didn't leave a forwarding address. Ran into him years later and he made a point of telling me how furious his wife was that I had "enticed" him. I suspect she knew the truth, but it was easier to blame me.

Ah, sweet days of youth.
