Regarding newspapers, yeah I kept a few here and there. I grew up outside of a not very big city of about 100K people, and on a couple of occasions I'd find my name or even a picture of me within the pages.

One time my band played a free show at the marina, and during the set this dude with a pro-looking camera kept walking around on stage taking pictures of us. Imagine my surprise when we received the newspaper that weekend and found that I was taking up most of the front page of the Arts & Entertainment section. You bet I went to the corner store and snapped up another dozen copies 😅

Apparently, I put away a few newspapers on significant dates, including from 1990, and the year 2000. Has anyone else ever done this?
I've long saved newspapers that appealed to me, including one announcing the first moon landing. I have some older ones I found inside a wall of a lodge that was being renovated. One is written in Norwegian, of all things. Huh. I haven't looked in that trunk in decades. I also have magazines that range from the 1880s through the 1980s. Thought my grandchildren might someday get a kick out of 1980s fashions.

I had a friend whose parents kept their own parents' issues of Life Magazine from the 30s through the 50s. Absolutely fascinating (and often hilarious) stuff to read through, especially the advertisements !

The short story contest prompt this month is "a quiet day" - probably what I will have today

@Set2Stun, I want to make some quip about you being in Ian Dury's band, but can't make it stick. Cool photo, though.

We have newspapers from both kids' dobs, along with their first outfits, so tiny, all in vacuum bags in the attic.

The town where I grew up periodically throws out compilations of vintage events accompanied by photos. My father and his sibs feature as children in the most recent. We also have a rather fabled photo taken from a newspaper of Dad standing over a guy slumped on the ropes in a fight he claimed to have lasted 11 seconds, including the count.

Five string bass... Cool!

I kept newspapers from the Patriots and Red Sox first few championships but ditched them when it stopped being noteworthy.

It's morning, right? Ugh. Wrote until after 3 a.m. (didn't realize it was so late) and still woke up at 7:45. I suspect a nap will be needed in the near future, but will have to wait until mid-afternoon. Ugh again.

Fancy G series keyboard is dying. O and I keys are worn blank. A key don't always work sometimes goes aa. Used to be WASD wore out first, not enough gaming I guess.

I miss that 5 string. I had to sell it when I returned from my long backpacking trip because I was completely broke and had maxed out my credit card before getting back home. But - a former bandmate bought it, so I know it went to a good home.

Anyone super excited for the Olympics? Tonight is the last night we'll have NHL games for a bit because plenty of star players will be off to Italy. Let's go Canada! 🇨🇦

I also get to cheat and root for Finland at the same time 🇫🇮

My uncle was a geologist when I was 6yo. One day in kindergarten/preschool class there was a story hour. Anyone could tell a class a fictional piece. So, on my turn I described a group of geologists riding an all-terrain vehicle in mountains. They are getting further and further into wilderness to finally find a pile of gold. End of story. I felt glorious as a fantasy storyteller. That was centuries ago.

I wish I could remember what my classmates' stories were. But instead, I only remember superstitions and small anecdotes. Like, my friend was believing, that if you cry too much, the eyelashes will turn into tiny scallions. Things like this.

I wanted to write a story (that could also be another novel if I wanted to make it one, but kinda don't) about the perils of modern psychiatry. But that seems to be a sacred cow.
