Oh, dear goodness, the question of pineapple on pizza has raised its ugly head and been joined by equally interesting possibilities. Actually, mashed potatoes sounds like a good idea. Spread mashed potatoes on the crust instead of ghastly tomato sauce, add strips of smoked ham, maybe some green beans, sprinkle cheese, and brown that pizza up. Guess what's for dinner sometime next week.

I dunk peaches in boiling water for half a minute, then immediately drop them into ice water. Presto: the peels slip right off.

Had a nice, long sleep-in to start the Saturday. Just gonna be a boring day of uploading and reviewing e-book versions from three different retailers. Ideally everything will look fine and I don't have to tinker with the formatting and have to test over and over. Also ideally there will be plenty of afternoon left over to cram in some quality time with my PS5.

My sister keeps a Google speaker by the pool so we can have music. I was treading water to Stairway to Heaven, and really digging it. My arms and legs moved in all kinds of contortions. The tempo of the song sped up and so did I. I closed my eyes and aqua-danced, feeling the wondrous weightlessness of my willowy limbs in the water. The music was in me, like a spiritual experience, and the anticipation intensified as the crescendo of the song neared.

But we never got there. Just before we got to “wind on down the road” - my seven-year-old grand-niece’s sweet voice called out, “Hey Google! Play Had Me by Halftime by Morgan Wallen!”

Lol! I popped my eyes open quick!

For pizza, I say simplicity is best. A plain cheese pizza from a place where they know what they're doing? Chef's kiss. I do like some extras here and there like feta, marinated tomatoes, and of course pineapple.

You had me until pineapple.

I agree simplicity is best, which is why I make pizza with Parmigiano Reggiano, sun-dried tomatoes, and fresh basil. Nothing else. Make it fresh and there is nothing to touch it.

Straight to jail, right away.

Parmigiano Reggiano, sun-dried tomatoes, and fresh basil
This sounds right up my alley. I put the marinated tomatoes just a tiny step above sun-dried. To clarify, I typically get two pies - one with just cheese and pineapple (or with feta too), and another with marinated tomatoes and feta (or extra cheese, or parmesan, or whatever other cheese options are available). Not all together.

The Parmigiano Reggiano mention immediately made me recall the Italian Olympic gymnast cheese girl. Pretty certain I posted this on the old site, but who could grow tired of the cheese girl? One of the best endorsements imo.

Copy/pasted from a vent I gave to a writing friend yesterday:

[Right, I’ve just spent the afternoon stitching together what I wrote in the POVs of Dunbrooke into something of a basic outline and oh my god…
• It’s so tangled that I don’t even know what the hell I did to it.
• I’m starting to see the beginning of a map here. Act I and Act III and IV are locked — second half of Act II mostly locked.

Like this is writing. I’m basically taking a random bunch of hallucinations in my head and throwing it into paper and trying to get them to make sense. Why couldn’t I have picked an easier hobby like gardening, or sculpting with clay?]

617 words today. Cursed, but eh, I'll keep it.

My nephew was home for a visit from South Korea and he brought some individually wrapped cookies that were kind of like wagon wheels (which were much better when I was a kid) but anyway everything you buy here to eat has the list of ingredients on the wrapping but this did not so I imagine they don't have that law in South Korea.

Turkey vulture article and photos go out today so they'll be on the editor's desk tomorrow morning. Done with three weeks to spare. Editor wanted 1500-1800 words at forty cents per word plus extra for photos. My article is 1792 words, not counting cutlines.

The internet went down Friday, and I am over this provider. Our neighbor has a different provider that seems to be more consistent AND $30 a month cheaper. I'll call first thing tomorrow.

Driving home from Costco this morning, I drove an isolated stretch of road with no houses in sight. Someone dumped a couple of full large garbage bags by the side of the road, as if they would magically disappear.

It's beyond me how anyone can be that ignorant.

I'd characterize random dumping of trash as self-centered indifference. Can't be bothered to drive to the dump or pay the dumping fee, so leave it off where someone else might deal with it.

I live on a couple of acres on a semi-rural road. There's been a few times that I have picked up fast-food garbage from the front ditch, as if someone just whipped the bag full of garbage out their window as they drove by.

I heard some profoundly good news today that I'm sworn to secrecy about so can't say, even to the crew here despite knowing ye're all the height of discretion. Makes me think I should probably take better care of my health. Maybe quit smoking like my doctor has been telling me to bring down blood pressure and cholesterol, though the meds are making a difference. I may well be moving beyond Contemplation and into Action.

Somebody give me a fucking cigarette!!!
No.
