I'll scream if I have to make another charcuterie board. I used to prep 50 a day for a year and a half. And this was right when plating was evolving from surface area to elevation, so the knife cuts were constantly changing. Pain in the balls.

I used to make the actual boards, it's an easy earner if you've got a planer, jointer, router and bandsaw. There was a tragic trend for putting resin in themor on them too for a while though thats waning now thankfully

We have to use slates. The wooden boards aren't against health codes but DOH will make you chuck them as soon as their cracked or pitted. Not worth it.

Double-checked the long range forecast, and satisfied with what I saw, I just uninstalled my air conditioner for the season. She did a fine job this summer, which was especially hot, and now it's time to rest.

The low last night was 7C, and you could really feel it this morning. The air has the fresh crispiness of fall, and I'm here for it.

To those of us who speak Fahrenheit, that sounds mighty cold.

After I have a big dinner, I am usually too full for dessert. I'd rather bring it home to enjoy when I am less full. Today, my younger brother got dessert for the family gathering. he got donuts from Beechwood (specialty donuts) that cost about $40/dozen, and went to a winery bakery for butter tarts that are hailed as the best butter tarts in the Niagara peninsula.

I brought home a butter tart and a donut and I am going to eat my butter tart now.

Well, anyway, I picked up the stuff for the charcuterie board and it all cost me $120
Sorry I missed you, Louanne. I would have recommended this cheese, for starters: Thomas Dux Red Gloucester Cheese

I don't know if it's available for you, but it's sooo yummy. 😋 Fattening, but yummy. Crumbly like cheddar, but more mild. Be careful, or you'd eat too much. ;)

I put 2 slices of ham and half-a-dozen small pieces of this on a bagel and toasted it ... and gained 150 extra grams around the old tum-tum-tum. ;) But it was worth it 😋

My contribution to the family gathering today is a charcuterie board.

What did we call them in the last century?

Not sure, but my guess is "the goddamn cheese board!"

Come Monday, my vacation from the business of writing is over. Time to cowgirl up, finish the pitch for the conference next month, make plans for traveling south, and put my vast array of notes for Book III in some semblance of order. The week of the 29th is when the flood of obligations really begins: Zoom presentation for a library in MA, library presentation in a town a couple of hours from here. Following week holds the book conference and the beginning of a book tour. I have too little self-control, and it is far too pleasant to goof off on the internet than actually work. Ergo, time for another self-exile. If you see me hanging around here after midnight Monday morning, chase me home. I'm stubborn. Use dogs, if necessary.

Sigh. I'll miss y'all, but I'll be baa-aack.

From your mouth to God's ears, she said glumly.

It's not so much the work, which I enjoy, or even the travel and presentations. It's the having to put myself back under discipline. I hate being told what to do, even when I'm the one doing the telling.

It's a bit late, but I simply *must* order some pizza from somewhere..

Hope I find a decent 2 for 1 deal for delivery, and soon !

Oh yes, I need an explanation for the corn starch comments pretty please.

Good luck, Catriona! Crossing fingers for you. Hopefully you can get through all that in time. 🤞

I have a very similar situation at work every month, since I work in accounts, so I have to get all the figures to line up by the first day of each month. (If I don't, and some of them are left over, it can cause chaos, misunderstandings, bad feelings, etc... sigh).

If it's *very* late, and you don't have a lot of time to order it, then Domino's may be in order. =P

They're better than they used to be, but they're still not as good as finding a decent pizza place though. You get what you pay for. (Not to mention that the Domino's pizza is even more unhealthy than the ones you'd get elsewhere).

Mind you, Pizza Hut is also crap. I tried it the other week and couldn't eat it. So now, I call it Pizza Butt. (Eat too much of it, and your you-know-what will also be round) ;)

No idea what the corn starch is for, sorry.
