Pro tip, the closer you are to the microphone, the deeper your voice becomes. It gives it more oomph as you Canadians say.

But you need a pop filter to avoid... pops. Pro tip 2: Any thin fabric you have lying around can act as a pop filter.
It just so happens that last year I bought a decent mic to use for online karaoke. It's got a pop filter and it seems to work well !

For the first time in far too long, I managed to turn out 1450 decent words. Uff da. This writing to a deadline has its incredibly sucky moments, especially when half a dozen other deadlines are looming in the next few months. Mostly I work well to deadlines, but this winter has been one long slog.

Best info this thread has produced yet. Thanks.

I just signed up for an 8 week improv class in the Downcity Arts District. This is going to be interesting. My therapist said to get out of the comfort zone. This definitely qualifies.

I think the recording I took on my second take is okay. The mic is quite good at its job; no outside noise, no pop. I'm only a bit concerned about my audible breathing, and I wonder if I read it too slowly. I don't mind doing a few more takes, but let's see what the editor thinks first.

I'm so happy winter is basically over. The almond tree in the yard is in the process of sprouting leaves, the days have grown longer, and less clouds cover the sky. I love spring so much.

Me, too! It's definitely my favourite season

Alas, we in Australia have just come into autumn. It's all right. Our autumns are coolish in the morning but warm (and sometimes sunny) during the day, without being overly hot.

Our springs are cold and sometimes rainy. What is spring like for you? :)

Just tried recording a flash story that will be on Australian radio and a podcast next month, but even while completely alone I am somehow self-conscious about it. Very silly. I'll give it another shot this evening after I've deposited a few alcoholic drinks.

Oh? What radio channel (or link), Set2Stun? :) I'll make sure to tune in, if I'm not in the office or somewhere where I'm not allowed to listen to radio (e.g. doctor's office).

It's going to be published/aired in April, no confirmed date as yet, but best believe I'll be posting about it 😅

This is the show:

(moseys in and drops a video)

Few months ago, someone on Reddit talked about the Helen Keller Hoax and how it was deeply offensive, and this got me inspired to look into it and make a video where I debunk it. Not as great as SoupEmporium's video on the subject but wanted to add my own thoughts to it.

Hope y'all enjoy it! And yes, I use CapCut's text-to-speech software. The idea, writing, and editing are 100% done by me.

Thank you, Link. ❤️ You're absolutely right: why would the Kellers fake something like this? It makes absolutely no sense.

I have a story of my own: I've worked in the healthcare industry for nearly 20 years, and in the disability sector specifically for almost 6½. (I'm not a medical person, e.g. a doctor or a nurse. I 'just' work in the accounts division).

The business I'm in helps people who are disabled, and also employs people who are disabled. So I can see, day by day, how well they do.

One of them works in our reception office, despite having trouble walking. We rely on her for our ingoing and outgoing mail, along other things (like being the first face of our business). She's been doing that job for almost as long as I've been there, and she does it brilliantly, despite her disability.

Some of our clients have written books. Others are accomplished artists. Some are good cooks. And that's just within our company.

Saying something like 'all disabled people are [XYZ]' makes about as much sense as saying 'all [fill in the blank] people are [XYZ]'. In other words: No sense whatsoever. And people who say things like that can naff right off.

Ahem. Please pardon my rant, and my swearing. Thanks :)

@Link the Writer - fantastic video, thanks so much for sharing it.

The story of the relationship between Helen and Anne is such an inspiring one.

Mentioned in the video - "lazy ableism" - something creeping in, replacing critical thinking, in the internet age.

I also liked the the mention of "adaptation and willingness to learn" - Helen must have had a lot of it

I'm having a hell of a time getting the tone right for this one scene in my WIP. It's been largely lighthearted and humorous so far but now there's a death scene that has to be dealt with and it's playing like an off-flavor.
I just wrote it with the MC looking to the sky and shouting "Noooooooooooooo!" for shits and grins. It actually isn't that bad compared to my other efforts. These are not good things.

spring the clocks forward day.

Forgot about that! I just noticed my phone and computer automatically changed, and I just went and changed the time on the stove and microwave. The sunset tonight is 7:14 pm!
