Every time I want to quickly introduce a new (male) character while writing, the first names that pop into my head always begin with "J." James, Jared, Jonas, John, ... Why is that?

I think we just had our first spammer, unless I missed twenty.

Mind you. I don't know whether you've really considered the advantages of owning a really fine set of modern encyclopaedias? You know, they can really do you wonders.

Just kidding, sir. I'm here to burgle the place.

You could always go one-up the alphabet and pick names that start with K, like Karl, Karol, Konstantin, and so on. ;)

It's not just me! Though I have to push past Jason, Jack, John, Joe....

I really like first names that begin with J
So do I. But I also like names starting with A and L, and those just never come up when I need them!

Glad to hear I’m not alone 😁 And yes in my case it’s only male names. Female characters get much more varied names when quickly dragged into existence.

I got cornered today at work and ran out of excuses not to go drinking with the crew next Friday. It's a surprise for my designated work wife organised by her actual husband who plied the guilt over the phone, lifts arranged by people who'd only have a slight diversion to drop me home drunk and incapable. She even has a daughter named Grace, so thanks for tying that up, Louanne. Looks like I may be coming out of retirement. Been so long since I got drunk, I may have forgotten how!

I'm usually my own designated driver, which is partly why I don't go out with them very much. They're a young crew, this lot, good company and full of fun and vigour, and well practised in the art of drinking to excess. It'll come back to me. Like falling off a bike.

I think we should petition the mods to anonymise this thread.

I wasted the whole day snoozing in bed, though I admit it was enjoyable. Wish I could do that more, but I feel a little guilty about not being as productive as I should be.

Happy Canada Day to those who celebrate !
