The Jade Empire - OOC Thread

@ellekaldwin @buttercream @Whiskii

I'd like to bring The Great Emperor Yu in as a recurring character, but I am sorry I can't find where he was first introduced.

I have a skeleton of a character profile made up for him, and hope whoever created the character can let me know if there is anything I should add - (or suggestions from any of you)

Name: The Great Emperor Yu

Male or female: Male

Age: Thousands of years old

Chinese, British, American or French? Chinese

Physical appearance:

Yu appears as an old man, but his exact age is unknown, since he has lived since the dawn of recorded time. His eyes are dark and penetrating. Portly, with a neatly trimmed beard and a long, thin moustache, he wears voluminous robes fashioned of gold silk, elaborately embroidered, and a flat-topped crown with hanging strings of jade beads.

Backstory:

The first emperor, Yu is the creator and builder of the Shen-Ji—the God Machine. He now resides above the clouds, in Chíjiŭ Temple, which translates to “the Enduring Temple” – but does sometimes make appearances on Earth.

Personality:

Thousands of years of experience has embedded restraint in him. His expression remains calm and unreadable. He possesses all the wisdom of all the books ever written, and is motivated by goodness and justice.

Other information:

Great Yu was introduced in my latest post. I didn't intend for him to still be alive, seeing as he's a legendary emperor said to have founded the first dynasty of China (Xia Dynasty). Some sources say he's connected to the Jade Emperor, or he even is the Jade Emperor. He is said to have been buried in the Kuaiji Mountains in Zhejiang province (Shanghai is nearby).

The guardian lion would be all that remains of him. But I'd like to see what you think first.

I've also tried to imply that there is more than one God-Machine. Maybe Locke can go looking for them and the party can chase after him.

Also -
I would like to bring in Master Gyatso in as a recurring character, too.

@ellekaldwin - I believe you created him. Would you like to make up his character profile, or would you like me to?
Yes! I can write up a character profile ASAP. Sorry for the late reply. I gotta get back into the habit of checking here daily. The holidays and getting the flu got me all out of wack

I've also tried to imply that there is more than one God-Machine. Maybe Locke can go looking for them and the party can chase after him.

This would require the gang traveling all over China and I'm not sure this is feasible in our story?

We are pleased to officially welcome Master Gyatso to the story! Thank you very much, @ellekaldwin

Well maybe he simply doesn't concern himself with the matters of current China. Too busy tinkering with his machines.

Absolutely love the idea of an immortal emperor choosing to play with his toys over ruling the country he created.

Him still being alive opens up some fun opportunities, too. He could act as a guiding force for our characters, or perhaps another layer of opposition. It'll be cool to connect his ancient wisdom with the modern times. Helps tie everything together.

This thread's OP mentions maybe journeying to ancient ruins. Instead of through the whole country, we could limit it to there. The Shen-Ji Locke is currently gunning for could be part of a duo or trio, or a prototype or dummy for a single more powerful machine. It'd give everyone reason beyond simply chasing Locke to head for that region. Until we add another plot point, at least.

New entry is posted!

I've written scenes with Yu and Gyatso, hope they are okay!

Today I introduced a new character - Alto Mesioq - an immortal Esyew (prophet) of the Squamish Nation

The translation of his name is "shaman of the mountain." I should get his profile up today

In my entry, I've connected him to Gyatso (who also is a mountain dweller)

I'd like for them to belong to a spirit society called "Brothers of the Mountains"

@ellekaldwin - can I add to Gyatso's profile that he is a member of the Brothers of the Mountains?

Eventually, I'd like to introduce a third Brother of the Mountains, from the Scottish Highlands, named Liath - another ancient immortal

I see these three Brothers playing a role (which at the moment I have no clue what it could be) in getting our group to the summit of the allegorical mountain we have referred to in past entries

***

I can't remember if we have had this conversation - we need to decide who are the main characters and who are supporting characters?

Whose story is this?

The ones that seem to stand out to me are Jiàn Lù and Rennie

***

@Whiskii - was there anything else you wanted to add to the character profile for Emperor Yu?

@ps102 - thanks for the love! If you'd like to jump into our story, we have a place for you!
That is extremely bizarre. I wanted to add that reaction to your latest entry, but it somehow made its way to the OOC post. Either the system glitched or I am going senile at the age of 25. I clearly remember adding that reaction to your entry right after reading it (because I was super impressed by it) so really not sure what happened there.

Doesn't matter I suppose. I just wanted to communicate how much I liked your new post. I really loved it for some reason. Sorry to disturb your OOC thread!

Thanks for the invite. I definitely can't join another roleplay right now. My autistic head can only handle so much hyperfocus. But maybe after the Tavern story is finished, I will. I would really miss writing collaboratively like this and I wouldn't want that.

Thank you so much for reading it. It really means a lot to me that you do.

Thank you so much!

You know, I am inspired by the ethereal ways in which you have taken the Tavern roleplay
