Maybe I'll give Hyperion another try. So far I've never been able to get past the first chapter.
I loved Hyperion; just read it for the first time maybe 2 years ago or so. My only issue with it was that the chapters are soooo loooong. Like a couple of them are literally 100+ pages, so sometimes you just gotta put the bookmark in without there being a natural break in the narrative.

No, he doesn't. Death is just providing a service: ushering souls into the next world.
People say they are afraid of death, but what they're really afraid of is the process of dying. As Wynne says in Dragon Age: Origins (one of my favourite quotes):
"People fear not death, but having life taken from them. Many waste the life given to them, occupying themselves with things that do not matter. When the end comes, they say they did not have time enough to spend with loved ones, to fulfill dreams, to go on adventures they only talked about.
