The Notable Death Thread

The Lion KIng is based on Hamlet? Who knew.

Lion King irritates the hell out of me because the circle of life welcoming the newborn king is filled with prey he's going to eat somewhere along the line. Obviously, I have issues related to not being at the top of the food chain. No giraffe or eland mama with half a brain is going to say, hooray, this lazy little lion bastard is gonna send his females out to hunt, kill, and eat my babies.

However, I have no issues with the reality of Dumbo flying.

All Dumbo needs to do to be more unrealistic is flap his trunk around like a ... like a ... I forget, that thing on a helicopter that spins really fast and makes it get off the ground. *scratches head* The whatchamacallit. Does anyone know?

Thank you for reminding me. I'd forget my own head if it wasn't tied on with muscles and flesh and things. ;)

Chris Rea has died, aged 74.

Wikipedia thinks this is him.

Still trying to get over the death of Rob Reiner. It's occurred to me that his movies are responsible for some of the catch-phrases that have filtered down to popular culture. I can think of four of them off the top of my head:

"I'll have what she's having."
"You can't handle the truth!"
"But mine goes up to eleven."
"My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

and I'm sure there are more.

The Ninth Circle of Hell has a new resident. Aldrich Ames has gone to his reward.

I thought I recalled the Ninth Circle was reserved for traitors, but I wandered over to Google to make sure. Discovered the Ninth Circle is divided into four rings, one specifically marked for traitors to their country. It's called Antenora, named for Antenor of Troy. Then, of course, I had to go check out Antenor of Troy. He was one of Prium's counselors. He opened the gates of Troy to the enemy in return for the same sparing his house from the ensuing sack.

Well, that jogged some long quiescent brain cells. Maybe I'll reread The Firebrand by Marion Zimmer Bradley.

End of the trip down the rabbit hole inspired by Dante.

Ai, a counting, painting chimpanzee has died at the age of 49.

The Planet of the Apes is postponed for one more generation.

She sounds more cognitively advanced than half the adults I know. RIP.

ETA: Actually, sitting here reviewing invoice codes and price checking various varieties of avocado oil, she probably has me licked as well.

Don't worry about it, Homer. She's dead now, which puts you right back on top of the simian intelligence ladder. Just don't fall off reaching for a bottle of avocado oil.

It's ungodly expensive. If I wasn't out the door in 4 weeks I'd be raising holy hell about it.

Do you have a calendar somewhere with each being marked off in red at midnight?
