Things You Recently Bought or Got, Redux

I bought 3 new phones. Not thrilled about it, but the old ones were 5 years old and beginning to die. Husband's was the worst, deciding to embellish itself with lime green lines up and down the screen, and he needs it for work.

Phones suck. The necessity of phones sucks even more. I can't do my job without one. And it gets worse and more necessary every year. It hasn't happened yet, but I don't think I could hire somebody without one. They would be unable to access the things their job would require.

That is so fucked up I'm sad now.

My husband is a foreman for a fence company. He can't do his job without one. He has apps to help him find property lines/pins for the residential jobs, he has to read contracts, communicate with his crews and customers, let the office know what materials to order. Then you add in the rate/state jobs and all the reasons you need a phone get exponentially worse. You would think you could get away without one in construction but nope, not even there.

A golf/hunting-style laser rangefinder to take to a nearby state park to see if I was approximately accurate in writing:

The stretch in question does indeed vary from 94 to 117 yards. So much easier than wading and swimming with the end of a steel measuring tape between my teeth.
Ooh, what a great idea!

I'm horrible at judging distances. Which is weird, considering I used to practice architecture.

Agreed. 90% of the calls I get these days are Indian offshore tech companies trying to flog their services. If I ever figure out who sold my phone number...

Anyway, back on topic and onto happier things... We recently got a puppy. He's about 10 weeks old.

What kind of puppy?

I bought a new blue collar for our puppy, who is 12 weeks old. Puppies rock. Adult dogs are even better, and we have one of those, too.

Awwww. What a fine little guy. Ours is a Curnese Mountain Dog (half Bernese, half mountain cur;)). Big Dog is Pyrador (black lab/Great Pyrenees mix). The first couple of days Puppy was here, Big Dog was almost frantic in his need for attention and reassurance. Now they are total buds, and I am almost superfluous... except at meal time.

I finally got my new office chair. Not the most expensive, not the cheapest (kind of how I do things, lol)

$700 but I got a CAA discount which brought the price down to $630

I've got full back support now, and the best thing is that the chair is Canadian-made.

I learned a lot of things while at this music festival this weekend, but one of the best parts was how genuinely kind a lot of the people are who attend them. There were some horror stories, but for the most part I was delighted to see how people got along. There were a lot of people trading bracelets, and some just gave out things. I got

1. A tiny blue plastic dinosaur
2. A pumpkin sticker
3. A Vessel (lead singer of Sleep Token) sticker
4. A small photo of III (bassist for Sleep Token)
5. A glow stick bracelet
6. A clay bead bracelet
7. Two festival shirts
8. Several pictures of me and my friends
9. Photos of Breaking Benjamin (one of my favorite bands ever)

And what I didn't get??

SUNBURNED. I'm super pale, and the sun was outrageously hot. But I used about half a tube of sunblock over the course of two days, and only my face and a little of my neck got slightly burnt.

Fantastic weekend.

My grandson and I are going out today to celebrate his birthday, which is actually a couple of days before Christmas. Normally we go in mid-October, but I'll be out of town until the end of the month. So: no telling what I'll buy today. He's not very possession oriented, but I'm thinking of a mini-fridge for his room at our house for soft drinks and snacks.
