What made me happy today?

Congratulations!

So, all in all, this library treats you better and appreciates you more than the other one you worked for?

I'm happy thanks to all the ways my Friday night went off-script. First of all went bowling with some friends I talk to often enough but hadn't actually seen in ages, had a wonderful time doing that, then we had jolly ramble through the city streets, talking about anything and fuck all. It was just that sort of magical night you used to get when you were, oh, thirteen years old, except I'm thirty-six and thought I'd seen my last such a one. Capped my night off splitting from the herd and going skinny dipping with some very pleasant (and sexy) strangers. Life was just a fucking bounty tonight, and I'm happy to be in it. Times are good.

Even though I absolutely wrecked my right wrist doing some weeding yesterday, I finally got the weed barrier laid out in my driveway garden bed and it looks decent. I plan on putting pavers in within the next few weeks to create a kind of patio thing. It's such an eyesore otherwise.

I love yard work. So much so I'm disappointed when it's over. Having said that, I live on a .17 acre city lot, which is huge compared to my neighbors. I might be singing a different tune if I had a few acres to maintain.

There's a very good chance I'm going to be having hot dogs for tea now. I am highly suggestible when it comes to matters of the belly.

I made some cheese shortbread today... a treat for the doggo. It's a recipe that's always satisfying because its tasty to simple ratio is awesome.

Had a pretty simple lunch that gave me the biggest joy. Millet congee and tofu pieces I had as leftovers from last week. And a stick of Colby Jack cheese.
That has my interest piqued. I've never had millet (just not readily available) or congee. Looked it up online and like the sound of it (need gut support). Seems to sit between savoury and sweet? Do you season it? What are good add-ins?

It depends on what you cook it in. I used vegetable broth this time and added a couple tablespoons of red lentils to cook with it. I use it as a quick meal when I'm not sure what I want to eat, and I usually just have it as is. I did like the tofu with it, though! Gave everything a nice boost.

Sounds nice. I do love lentils. Just had daal for lunch... With a cheese scone, obviously.

I've been an ornamental gardener (amateur) for 25 years now but am only just starting to play with veg these last few years and I don't really have the capacity for consistency of care to get a good yield BUT I end up with the odd handful of things every now and then: a few beans, some greens, a radish or two. It's enough just to be able to add them in as a boost to something like this 😁

I'm trying squash again this year. It's tough because I don't have much space and they love to spread and then they get damaged. I've chosen the little round Japanese kabocha and I thought I had them contained... Then it rained! A week of downpours and then bright sunshine and my squash bed is a forest. I companion planted dwarf sunflowers and they've gone nuts too. Beautiful though 🌱🌻🌱🌻🌱

Yesterday the activity committee at work gave out some cups of watermelon cubes as a "hey, middle of summer it's August have a good day" thing. One of my best friends is on that committee and when I stopped by to grab some watermelon, she said they bought too many so she offered me one of the extras. I got to take home a chonker of a watermelon for free and I'm so excited to cut into it!

Technically this was last night, but it was kinda late! On a lark, I googled my pen name to see what the results might be, and I discovered that a magazine reviewed an issue that I was published in last month. Fortunately the comments were positive, as they didn't only have good things to say about the stories in that issue.
