It snowed. Finally. Red flag fire conditions are alleviated for the time being.
The Falls next to my. house are 65 feet tall, the ones in front are 168 feet tall. When the ice goes out it shakes the house. It happens all in a matter of minutes, a lot of years it happened at night. I am hoping to be able to see it today, we are going to get an inch of rain
We lived near two smallish dairy farms when I was a kid. One was operated by a convent, and had rolling hills, visible through our front window, through which I wandered after school and on weekends, in my introverted way. The other was a private company, Graystone Dairy, from which we had a milkman drop off our weekly supply -- which involved a wooden milk box on the front porch, on which our cat would sleep. We used to go past Graystone's pastures to and from school. Something wonderfully pastoral (deliberate pun) and restful about those fields; Graystone's later devolved into a K-Mart, and is now a massive strip mall. The covenant abandoned its dairy long ago, and its fields are now the site of television antennas and expanded parking for its girls high school. My husband grew up in a dairy family in Nort Dakodah. I lived in cattle ranching country except for two years in Marin Co where our place was bordered by a big dairy. I had to go back to that area on business after forty+ years absence. Town had grown like a cancer cell, but to my astonishment and delight, the dairy pastures were holding their own.
I still can't get used to the dry weather reports from your neck of the "woods."It snowed. Finally. Red flag fire conditions are alleviated for the time being.

Thus the quotation marks around the word woods. Remember, my roots are in your vicinity, so I know the lay of the land.Woods? What are these woods of which you speak?

When I looked at those falls the first time, I thought if those froze over and there was about 3 feet of snow, I could ski down them. I guess life is all about perspective.Am I seeing the face of weeping Buddha in the photo to the right?
