What made me unhappy today ?

The fireworks in my neighborhood have been big and consistent. It's not even dark out! WTF is wrong with these people. It's such a waste of money to shoot stuff off when you can't see it. Also, my cat has been nervous since yesterday.

Found mold on my floors. Not sure how deep it goes. Hit it with bleach and it... went away I think.

Thankfully, it doesn't seem to be spreading.

And hey, at least I ruined a mold colony's day

People forget (or don't care) that what goes up must come down, including bits of expended metal. Sometimes those bits come down on top of someone, and then what? Really, firearm safety should be a required PE course.

I hope I'm right in saying that firearm safety should be a prerequisite to owning a firearm ... i.e. anyone who doesn't understand how to own one safely shouldn't be allowed to own one at all.

Having said that: I've never owned, touched, or even seen a firearm, so I hope I'm not being too strict. 😊 But guns are too dangerous to be in the hands of someone who doesn't know how to use them safely. I hope I'm right. *crosses fingers*

*gives Luxuria's cat a warm basket and a cuddle* ;)

Agreed about shooting off fireworks in the daytime. You may as well have a blindfold on.

In LA it’s standard procedure for LAPD patrol units to park under freeways and other bridges during the mad minute at new year to ensure officers are safe from falling lead

How fast does a bullet fall? It goes straight up, loses momentum, stops, and then falls at terminal velocity, right?
The problem is a lot of people doing celebratory shooting don't fire straight up or even close. When a bullet is arcing it can retain a lot more velocity. And while this is an extreme example, the US Air Force used a weapon called the Lazy Dog in Vietnam, which basically dropped a whole bunch of 50 cal bullets, propelled primarily by gravity, as a sort of non-explosive cluster bomb. For troops in the open it could be quite devastating.

Quite agree. Celebratory fire is infantile.

If you want another slant on gun irresponsibility, check out the controversy over the Sig Sauer P320. Many — myself included — believe those guns can and do go off in the holster without anything pulling the trigger.

The latest incident was about a week ago. A school resource officer in Ceres, California bumps her handgun with her backpack. Video shows her hands were nowhere near her holstered P320 when it discharged into her leg. A tragedy. The police officer did nothing unsafe or wrong.

Many law enforcement departments have banned the P320. Sig says it's impossible for the P320 to fire without pulling the trigger. They continue to manufacture and promote it.

As I like to say, nine out of ten trauma surgeons who smoke Camels agree the P320 is perfectly safe. In other words, I have my doubts.

The P320 is carried fully cocked, typically with a round in the chamber, without a conventional safety.

There seems to be a split decision in the courts , an Atlanta federal jury found against sig and awarded 2.35 mil in damages to the former marine who got shot in the leg, however in Berrios vs Sig the court found for Sig and that officer Berrios had indeed pulled the trigger.

I remember many years ago that there used to be a defect on British army issue browning Hi Powers, where if the trigger were pulled with the safety catch engaged the trigger sear didn’t reengage properly so when the safety catch was then released the pistol would fire.

UGH ... I'm so mad right now. =( (We really need a "so angry, steam is coming out of ears" icon for this. This one ... ... just doesn't cut it).

It's Sunday here. I tried to log into my credit card account this morning to pay a bill, only to be told that my password was incorrect.

So, I changed my password ... TWICE ... and the credit card company's website kept on telling me that my password was incorrect. (And no, I didn't mistype it).

So, I tried calling them ... and after 5 minutes of having to sit through the slowest, stupidest menu in the history of phone menus, I was told "You called outside of our operating hours, try again later."

All right, fine ... so I looked up their website and found a "Scams Hub", which is open 24/7. So, I called that ... and again, I was told "You called outside our operating hours. Call again later."

GRR!!! *pulls hair out*

So why are these ... arseholes lying in such an obvious way? If this so-called "Scams Hub" is open 24/7, then they answer the phone. If they're not, they should fix their own goddamn website! I don't appreciate them wasting my time, especially with something as critical as this.

This icon ( ) is inadequate. Here's how I'm really feeling right now:

Sigh. Sorry I had to go nuclear like that. Back to our usually scheduled programming. :)
