What made me unhappy today ?

The good craft stores closed in my town and all I'm left with is a place I prefer not to support. I'm considering driving half an hour away for some picture frames (because I have an aesthetic ooh la la, so fancy with ya frames). Inconvenience, and I don't know why that chain closed in my town, but I'm imposed upon and cranky and and and and and.

have a beer to cheer you up...

Some son-of-a-bachelor has used one of my email addresses as the "from" address on their spam campaign so I am getting two hundred delivery failures every hour, and presumably will have the address blacklisted as a spammer. It's the address I used to sign up here so I might have to ban myself as a blacklisted spammer!

I manage my own emails so have been able to switch deliveries to the address off, but it will still be "out there"

I dunno. It's pretty descriptive in its own way, but maybe the oddball humor can only be appreciated by folks past the age of 70.

I had a carbon monoxide leak in the bathroom. Fortunately, it's been caught before it killed me.

Now I'll have to get rid of the old boiler. And fix the one in the bathroom as well.

Yikes! I'm glad you're OK. Leaks in the bathroom, of any kind, are bad news.

(Cue someone pointing out the obvious rejoinder in three ... two ... one ...)

Truly depressing

May I gently suggest that, considering the original mistake, this should be re-phrased as "truly pressing"? (Or maybe that should be the need for proof-readers at the Beeb...)

Well, I don't know what you do in Australia, but gas boilers are still standard here in the UK. So if it's a methane leak, it'll blow up your toilet, and if it's a carbon monoxide leak... it'll just kill you without you ever knowing about it.

How strictly do you mean "past" — as in "past the birthday?"
If you have achieved the age in question, you may interpret the phrase "past seventy" to suit your self. Otherwise, simply genuflect before the grandeur of age and slowly back away.

Back to work after taking last week off. Was hoping to recharge my batteries but that didn't work. Not unhappy but... existentially bored at the mundane and repetitive? It's like, the first 204 mouse clicks of my day are predetermined and will never change.

Ok, I asked GTP AI to 'write an edgy story for edgelords'. I then pasted in here - AI Detector - Trusted AI Checker for ChatGPT, GPT4 & Gemini

Result - 100% human.

We are doomed

ZeroGPT sucks. Also, if you were to paste the story in a contest here, you'd probably get hit with the ban hammer in a matter of hours.

In the other place (.com), I recall there was a user on one of the competitions who just blatantly pasted one of these stories. Everyone knew the truth and it immediately generated a discussion.

User-generated content sites like YouTube are flooded with AI content right now. A lot of people hate them. They call the phenomenon "AI slop" because that's what it is. Soulless content meant to fill pockets, not human hearts.

It will be the same deal with books. We'll have a lot of AI slop in the market. But there will also be lots of human stories as they've always been. I'm very sure about that.

My brother and sister in law forgot my birthday again this year.

Also my best friend forgot my birthday, but it's a tough time of year for her since her brother passed away shortly after my birthday last year, so I'm trying really hard not to be mad at her.
I'm sorry 😪 Happy belated birthday!

A few posts have been deleted because the thread took an unfortunate turn into the dirty rutted road to snarksville... that route dead ends in the swamp of despair, and isn't recommended to anyone.

We don't do interforum drama - if you have a grievance about dot com take it up with selorian and foxee etc, we don't want to hear about it here.

I've never heard of ZeroGPT, but this is very true. I especially love "Soulless content meant to fill pockets, not human hearts." Thank you for putting it so simply and so beautifully, ps102. :)

Happy belated birthday, hirudine. (y) I hope you had a good day on your birthday regardless.
