You know what they say about them, right? Neither holy, nor Roman, nor an Empire. I'm having flashbacks to history class now. And other back flashes. I think it's the heat.

That's a quote from Voltaire (1761). In his day, the Holy Roman Empire was still extant, so he knew what he was talking about. ;)

It was fun reading today's posts and remembering the shenanigans our free-range kitties got up to when I lived out in the bush. One of the cats came inside for the night 100% of the time, but the others were more like 80%-ers.

Always a hilarious time to have my mom scream when a kitty dropped a bloody rodent corpse inside as an offering. Usually they left the bodies on the welcome mat.

It's unusual for an animal to share. Years ago I hd an Irish setter, and while I was busy in my shop sitting on the floor with both legs under my M20 BSA, my sweet little Irish setter dropped a cat turd in my lap. With both hands holding the clutch assembly, I just had to grin and bare it.

One time, when I was a wee lad, one of our cats brought a garter snake into the house and released it. No harm in them, but my mother was not comforted by that abstract thought. And my dad was out of town on an overnight trip. I think she finally chased it outside with a broom.

On the subject of games to play with your family, our favorite is Dragonwood - obviously intended for kids but it scales well to adults because of the gambling / probability elements baked in. 😁 Maybe Five Crowns if you want something equally whimsical but slightly more mature.

My high school forensics coach once announced his intent to teach the traveling team how to play bridge so we'd have something to keep us occupied during off free time. He was sorely disappointed in the reaction he got from most of us.
