I'm going to go do my reading now ....

I was wondering why the grocer was carrying less and less Yves plant-based products. They ran out of veggie dogs, seemingly never restocked, then the same happened with the Mexican ground round, burgs, nugs, and so on til they simply did not carry any of these products anymore.

Was thinking of checking out another grocer, but then I read a news story about Yves discontinuing all of their products in Canada 😭
Damn! I ate this stuff a couple times a week. Beyond Meat has great nugs, fingers, and burgs, but they are super PRICEY. A real tragedy for me and others who loved these products.

You cook, bud? If not, I feel like you would benefit it from it. All the processed stuff your grocery lacks you can make fresh yourself for a fraction of the price.

I'm a pretty decent cook. I focus on making things that are not cheap at the grocery store, say, lasagna, cinnamon buns. I won't bother with stuff that's super cheap, like perogies for example.

There's no way I can make my own soy-based processed fake meats, though. I can make my tacos with beans instead, but nothing will beat that fake ground round.

Am I insufferable as a vegetarian? Or just a normal person who might casually mention my preferences from time to time ?

I can write and post some essays about ethics, animal rights, and the environment if I'm not living up to the stereotypes enough.

Oh, dear, two insufferable individuals in one place. Can I play? I point out procedural inaccuracies during courtroom drama shows.

No-one is insufferable if they mind their own business and don't try to force their own beliefs down other people's throats. Live and let live. :)

I ran into two insufferables last night, I'm sad to say. I was on a tram home, and as usual on public transport, most people were either listening to music or staring moodily at their phones (the new version of reading a newspaper). That's fine by me. I don't mind as long as they don't try to ruin my day.

That was when somebody, quite possibly drunk or high (and listening to music), decided to start singing "Staying Alive" by the Bee Gees. I wouldn't even mind that, but this fellow just couldn't sing. *wince* He was caterwauling off-key, singing the wrong notes, and taking a breath after every two words ... and slurring the same chorus over and over and over. He got off seven stops later. It felt like an eternity. Other passengers made comments about how badly he was singing, so I know it wasn't just me.

A few stops later, I had to change to another tram. A couple of stops after that, some moody-looking young woman started blasting rap music at a painful volume, and gradually increased it up to 11. Ears were bleeding. But no-one wanted to say anything, since she was surly-looking and had tattoos on her knuckles. :cautious:

Lucky for me, my stop was only 5-6 minutes later. I heard other passengers get off and saying "Thank god that's over," so I know it wasn't just me.

Anyway, sorry. I know I talk too damn much. 😊

Yorkshire terriers take the cake. Satan went door to door last week, spreading death and pestilence, got a few feet up my walk, saw my guy at the window, and backed away slowly.

We've had two cats in our neighborhood ... both female... who generated a sort of force field around them. When another cat walked near them, it would cross the street rather than mess with them.

I've got a recipe somewhere for "meatless meat balls." They were a staple of my Italian family back in the day, when they'd do the Catholic thing of foregoing meat on Fridays and during Lent. They were as close to the real thing as makes no difference.

So I was just reading an article about a person saving newspapers from long ago and it reminded me that I had kept a newspaper dated the day we got married - and I had a good suspicion where I had stored it away, on the top shelf of the storage closet in the hallway. So, I grab a chair (gotta climb to reach) - and sure enough there it was - and others! I had totally forgotten about my stash! Apparently, I put away a few newspapers on significant dates, including from 1990, and the year 2000. Has anyone else ever done this?

I stopped getting a paper newspaper delivered here around the year 2010.

But, anyway, as I am getting down from the chair, my eyes opened wide. I found another stash! I have no memory of buying this, or what I bought it for, most likely for a family gathering, but I haven't had the family over in months.

And the best-before date is May, 2026! Here's what I found -

I think I have two papers that I've saved. One was when Nixon resigned, and the other was when the World Trade Center was hit.

I've also got a stash of "Pennsic Independents" that I've saved as a memento of my trip to that premier SCA event.

And I've still got a lot of "American Lutherie" and "Folk Harp Journal" magazines, which I say I'm keeping "for reference." And then there's the various hang gliding magazines and newspapers that I've collected as research for a book I'm writing on that subject.

I still subscribe to the paper edition. It's part of my morning ritual to scan all the headlines and do the two harder crossword puzzles.

I subscribe to a lot of different things - but I get it all online now.

Terrible about all the layoffs at the Washington Post
