I'd have done much better with cello if my beginning book had come with stickers.
Right? I got stuck with saxophone because my uncle had one so my parents didn't have to buy one. Boy did they live to regret that. Actually I was pretty good - made first chair in 3 months, but I wouldn't have a clue now. I can play a couple of very small things on piano that I don't know the name of or notes, I just know where my hands are supposed to go. Guitar I gave up too soon, lol. My fingers hurt.

Surely there must be piano for beginners books for adults? lol
That'd be no fun. This is one is pretty good. Does a good job explaining the interval structure, which is self-evident on the piano. Bass-ackwards on a guitar. Reading two staffs is insane, though. Bass clef might as well be written in Chinese. And the fact that guitar music is transcribed an octave up doesn't help either. I've been reading middle C in the "wrong" spot for 30+ years now.

Trumpet will really fuck you up, I hear. Only three valve keys but your lips have to work the harmonic sequence apparently. Octave, fifth, octave, third, fourth, flat seventh, in that order I think. No thanks.

Boy did they live to regret that.
I still have an alto. People don't realize how loud those things are. It makes my Marshall seem tame by comparison.

Exactly. That's what mine was - alto. I ain't Kenny G haha
I played the tenor and the baritone as well but those belonged to the school. The barry was like a tuba. I never tried the soprano sax, or the "fucking kazoo" as Andrew Dice Clay called it. I don't remember the bit, but it started with "And then Kenny G comes out with his fucking kazoo...."

I only played alto. Dabbled with my sister's clarinet and bass clarinet, but only a little. Mostly to piss her off because it amused me.

Sorry to hear it. Best wishes.

And for men, too. Don't fuck around. Stress will kill you and damage to your heart is more or less permanent.

And prostate cancer has killed a lot of people unnecessarily. It ain't no laughing matter.

And everybody, get your colonoscopies. I know the preparation is a bitch, but it's easier now than when Dave Barry wrote the classic essay on it:

I agree totally with this bass clef nonsense. Why use a different notation when everybody knows that you're going to be playing the same goddamn notes, just an octave or two lower? Just when you've learned "Every Girl and Boy Does Fine" and "F A C E," you've got to embrace the fact that All Cows Eat Grass. You know what comes out of male cows that eat grass? The bass clef.

My guess would be to preserve the interval structure, as middle C resequences the lines and bars by appearing twice on a line in an odd numbered scheme. It flips everything around. I guess already being familiar with the harmony doesn't make that part look weird in my head.

Doing some writing in my historical mystery. Went to my sci-fi and am trying to figure out how I make a character (who does turn traitor) not be so obvious about it from the beginning.

Whatever you do, don't name him Benedict. Or Quisling.

But if either of his parents are classically educated, perhaps his middle name (or one of them) could be Catiline.

Weather. I intended to leave Sunday morning for Washington, but western Montana and Idaho are getting blasted by a storm the extended forecast didn't predict. I found out about it from a friend who lives north of Missoula. Revised my plans and now will be leaving tomorrow a.m. and taking a longer southernly route while the weather in that direction is decent.

Nothing like unexpected deadlines and changes in plans, right?
