The struggle is real. Took me 13 years to pay off my student loan. Worked close to minimum wage til I was 30. Finally started making some progress, and then:



I've accepted that I will never own a home and I will be renting until I die. I am also fairly confident that retirement is not going to be an option for me. People of my generation (the one that is worse off than their parents' generation) are unhappy about this situation, and rightly so !

Our side of the story has some points of interest. Women needed a male relative to co-sign loans until 1974 when the Equal Credit Opportunity Act made that practice illegal. I was a senior in high school in 1972 when Title IX passed forbidding sex-based discrimination in education programs and activities that receive federal funding. That's just the tip of the iceberg. That's strange I thought, the USA and Canada passed the same law the same year?

Then I googled "Equal Credit Opportunity Act Canada" and was told by AI that Canada does not have an Act so named.

Yes, we have those laws.

But my point was not that women could not arrange their own loan here, but that AI incorrectly cited the American law in reference to Canada.

Given the nature of my job, it's usually within a predominantly female workforce. Despite the numbers, management used to be predominantly male, and exclusively so within my working life time. I've worked for more than one agency that had the figurehead (male of course) surrounded by a bunch of lesser figureheads (also male), none of whom would never challenge, dispute nor disagree with top dog, while often intensely criticizing him when he wasn't present. Promotion then Emasculation. It's different now, at least within agencies where I work.

I was googling for a particular gif to post in a Discord, and I had a laugh at the gen AI breakdown of the scene I was referencing. It might make Simpsons fans' heads explode. You're right, it did make my head explode. In the clip, that's neither Chief Wiggum nor a cannon.

McBain's adventures are parodies of action films, of course, but that particular clip always reminds me of Dirty Harry. The parody is spot-on.
