The struggle is real. Took me 13 years to pay off my student loan. Worked close to minimum wage til I was 30. Finally started making some progress, and then:

I've accepted that I will never own a home and I will be renting until I die. I am also fairly confident that retirement is not going to be an option for me. People of my generation (the one that is worse off than their parents' generation) are unhappy about this situation, and rightly so !

Okay, got me there. But it does seem that the women I knew were doing about as well as I; but then, how well do I know their side of the story?

Our side of the story has some points of interest. Women needed a male relative to co-sign loans until 1974 when the Equal Credit Opportunity Act made that practice illegal. I was a senior in high school in 1972 when Title IX passed forbidding sex-based discrimination in education programs and activities that receive federal funding. That's just the tip of the iceberg. Interesting delve into history, if you care to make it.

It's not that long ago that a pair of testicles was a necessary requirement to join the club around these parts, only for them to promptly remove them when you walked through the door.

An example of AI giving wrong information:

I Googled "when did women in Canada get the right to qualify for their own loan?"

The answer given was in 1974 with the Equal Credit Opportunity Act.

That's strange I thought, the USA and Canada passed the same law the same year?

Then I googled "Equal Credit Opportunity Act Canada" and was told by AI that Canada does not have an Act so named.

Hey, wait a minute. *thinks* I just googled "Equal Credit Opportunity Act Canada" and found that even though Canada does not have an Act so named ...

...Canada does have laws and regulations that aim to prevent discrimination in lending and financial transactions, particularly focusing on gender equality and other protected characteristics. These include provisions within the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Canadian Human Rights Act, and various provincial and territorial human rights legislation.

I'm not sure if that's true, but that's what the flavour-of-the-month-AI told me ... and who am I to doubt that. *blows a Bronx raspberry* :P

I was not aware that the Guild of Castrati is back in town. When did that happen? ;)

(Seriously, I'm not sure what you mean, Rigor Mortis. Would you care to elaborate, please?) :)

Ya gotta have the nuts to be considered for the job, ya get the job and they takes yer nuts to stop ya from being uppity.

Given the nature of my job, it's usually within a predominantly female workforce. Despite the numbers, management used to be predominantly male, and exclusively so within my working life time. I've worked for more than one agency that had the figurehead (male of course) surrounded by a bunch of lesser figureheads (also male), none of whom would never challenge, dispute nor disagree with top dog, while often intensely criticizing him when he wasn't present. Promotion then Emasculation. It's different now, at least within agencies where I work.

Ah, I see what you mean. Thanks, Rigor. :)

Just wondering: what is the "nature of your job"? Which industry do you work in? I've worked in healthcare for about 17 years, and the workforce there is also predominantly female (including management).

Clicked, and I do have something to contribute to the inaccurate gen AI talk. I was googling for a particular gif to post in a Discord, and I had a laugh at the gen AI breakdown of the scene I was referencing. It might make Simpsons fans' heads explode. Non-fans probably won't get most of it but I'll include the actual clip (13 seconds) for context.

You're right, it did make my head explode. 🎊 In the clip, that's neither Chief Wiggum nor a cannon.

McBain's adventures are parodies of action films, of course, but that particular clip always reminds me of Dirty Harry. The parody is spot-on. ;)

Someone actually took the time and trouble to stitch together all the iconic McBain mini-scenes into one coherent (and hilarious) mini-movie. It starts off as a cop-buddy film and ends as James Bond. Take a look:
