What made me happy today?

We still get paper bills and pay them with a paper check by snail mail.
The only bill I pay with a check anymore is the quarterly trash hauling and recycling service. It does me good to walk into town and drop it into the dedicated box at the municipal building.

I still get paper statements for most things. If I don't lay eyeballs on the amount due and the due date, I might forget, and incur late fees.

It is a very fun song. How did following along go?
Pretty well, but the sound on my laptop is inadequate at best. So, on the run-ups I was drowning the singer out (harder to sing high notes softly). Very possible I wasn't matching her anymore.

My voice teacher used to run me up to D6 in lessons, but that was a while ago.

I totally understand. I worry about drowning out the singer as well when I'm singing along. I did find a piano track, though. It's useful. Anyway, I've been working on softer higher notes as well. I think what I am finding is, being as relaxed as possible.

Oh, fun. :) I haven't done in-person singing sessions in ages. But my teacher's recordings for warm-ups go to A5 for standard and her high note extension practice goes to F6.

1980. We had music classes in first year of secondary school, dropped thereafter because, clearly, it wasn't all that important. For the entirety of the school year, I got to sing two notes. Day one. the teacher went through the entire class. each boy in turn, to assess potential. She sang a note and each of us had to replicate it. She got to me, sang the note. I replicated it. She paused. She said, "could you do that again?" I did it again. That was the last note I sang in that class. The best I can say is she kept a straight face. That, and I was 12 and my voice was breaking.

My Mac Mini, ordered to replace my ten year old iMac, has transited from "processing" to "preparing to ship."

For less than my iMac cost ten years ago I'm getting more storage, more memory, and wildly better performance.

I got a nice display for it and I also found a portable display. Think something like an oversize iPad with a folio cover/kickstand.

Of course, then I had to order a zipper travel case for the Mini.

A case the size of a slightly stretched school lunch kit will carry the Mini, a docking station/SSD, keyboard, cables, and trackpad.

I know, I know. That's what laptops are for. I can't quite explain why, but I can't wait to haul my Mini along on a writing retreat.

There's one serious gap in my plans. I don't know what to name the new Mini. I'm thinking Paladin, as in have Mini, will travel. Or Nitre, to go along with my favorite screen name. ParagraphZeppelin? Ottmar, after Mr. Mergenthaler who invented the Linotype?

I thought Flyleaf might be good, but I might forget to zip my files.

A week until it's due. I've got to do better with the naming.

Congratulations, Amontillado. I finally bit the bullet and ordered a new laptop yesterday. It is supposed to arrive Monday. I had it delivered to the store: that's a pretty pricey piece of equipment to trust to the elements and wandering persons who might take a fancy to the package.
