What made me happy today?

I was struggling in first year French and decided to switch back to German. I thankfully can start at level 1 as it’s been over 10 years since I did the language. But so excited. I love German and want to live in Germany. If anyone wants to be German penpals or has good resources to recommend, please let me know. German resources are sparse in the US.

Back to rain, there are two songs about rain that I enjoy. Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head by B J Thomas, Is Anybody Going to San Antone.

And one more Singing in the Rain

In the Early Morning Rain, by all sorts of favorite singers from PP&M to Gordon Lightfoot and Judy Collins.

Who'll Stop the Rain by CCR

Kathy's Song by Paul Simon
I hear the drizzle of the rain
Like a memory it falls
Soft and warm continuing
Tapping on my roof and walls

I enjoyed this little thing ...

Congratulations, Amontillado. I finally bit the bullet and ordered a new laptop yesterday. It is supposed to arrive Monday. I had it delivered to the store: that's a pretty pricey piece of equipment to trust to the elements and wandering persons who might take a fancy to the package.
So true. The porch is no longer very secure. I'm a teleworker and my office window gives me a view of the porch. I should see the truck when it pulls up.

This purchase has been far from stress free, though.

First, we had to enlist friendlies in Chinese shipping concerns to exfiltrate the asset from communist held territory.

I say "the asset" in case communications are intercepted. The less intel leaked, the better.

Next came long, tense hours monitoring tracking reports as we navigated the morass of present day Hong Kong's shadowy intrigue.

We won't know what happened next until after-action debriefs. The asset transited Taiwan in a mere two hours. Taiwan and China are one diplomatic faux pas short of war. I fear there must have been a hot LZ and hostiles may be in pursuit.

Arrival and departure times in Anchorage show just nine minutes on the ground. The asset either had help or has been compromised.

Although delivery is still scheduled for Tuesday, tensions remain elevated.

My family has been untiring in their support of the mission, even employing coded communications here at home. Things like "Dad's gone crazy," or, "What manner of horse poo is he spewing now?"

I confess I'm not sure what those secure phrases decode to. Whatever, I'm certain it's impressive.

As you were. It's an honor serving with each of you.

The autumn bird migration has started in my area. Had an immature Magnolia warbler flitting in a small tree by my head and was able to capture it with my phone. Proud of myself for figuring out what it was, even if I had to replay the footage.
Did you let it go?

I was feeling a bit depressed and decided to sit under a big tree in front of our property here in the countryside. I sat on the ground, risking spoiling my clothes; I guess to feel more grounded or something.

I was in one of those moods where I feel a bit irrelevant, and get lost in thought wondering about meaning and all that. I took a twig from between the leaves and started making a small hole in the soil, and to my surprise something shiny appeared. I dug it out and it was a small ceramic figurine of a goose with its neck bent over in a kind of sleeping position.

I cleaned it with my fingers and there was a name on it. I looked it up on my phone. Turned out to be a company in England that made it years ago and it is a collector's item. I wondered how something like this travelled halfway around the world and ended up here in the dirt. What are the odds of me finding it like that?

This was so random, but I wanted, no, needed to see it as a sign; a sign that forgotten things sitting in the dirt can still be precious.

This is why you must write. Writing about magic attunes you so you can see it when it really happens.

I hope your blues were both transient and a precursor to wonderful stories.

In the past 12 months (Sept 24 to Sept 25), concentrated on Volunteering rather than paid work. Although I've had to "step up" doing three (3) roles, I've achieved in managing to keep the Community Centre running. In saying that, there were weeks when I could work 20-25hrs per week, others at 35hrs per week.

Now, volunteering 15hrs per week and having a change of role. Also, the days that I do have off, I concentrate on reading and writing. (my passion)
