I understand the excitement. Pretty cool! Good luck!I am trying so hard not to get obnoxious about this, but it's just been a really exciting week and I've been having fun with it in the moment. I received the five author copies I ordered today, and everything looks absolutely as I intended, and I am so so happy about that !

My nephew started reaching for me when he sees me. Nothing quite like being the reason a little one smiles.Been spending time with my toddler niece recently. Apparently, she told her mother she wanted to have dinner with me a few days after my visit. When we met for brunch today, she wanted to sit next to me. I'm feeling very flattered.![]()
Congrats on the retirement... and go to hell! The wife and I put in our best and final offer for the abandoned church we mean to purchase for renovation into a summer home in Scotland, and we will find out likely tomorrow whether we got it. In other news, I told my physician group here that I'm retiring at the first of the year! Whoo hoo lots goin on!
Take dire warning. This post is in the "What made me happy today" forum. Worse, a kitten is involved. Flee now!
Three days ago I heard juvenile mewing coming from our garage. I couldn't locate the source. Two days ago, same thing. There is a gap between the garage slab and the wall with an escape route.
Last night, the mewing was nonstop and continued when I went in the garage. I spoke in calm tones and after about five minutes of painful yowls a tiny kitten staggered into view, about six inches long. Its eyes were open but appeared unfocused. I made two errors of judgement.
I left the kitten, hoping its mother would claim it. I should have known that wouldn't happen, and I put out a saucer of milk. You would think cats and saucers of milk are natural companions, but after research today I know that milk or human infant formula can harm a kitten.
Fortunately, not from first hand experience. The kitten wasn't interested and it was still there this morning, now in greater distress.
I was at the local vet's door at opening time, brought the kitten in, and said the little fellow needed help. No charity work was expected, just bill me and let me go. I had to get to work.
Not necessary, they said. If I just wanted a rescue I could release the kitten to them and they would find a home.
An hour ago I called to check. The kitten had been bathed, treated for fleas, and had enjoyed a couple of kitten formula feedings. At that time, it was resting comfortably on a warm pad.
Thank God for compassionate people.
I actually caught one in my hand once. He was in my garage trying to get out through a closed window, and like a winged insect, he was flying towards the light constantly beating his wings against the glass. I was able to gently gather him in a loose grasp and walk him outside to flutter away. I keep feeders up (some with cameras) during the season. They never stop continuing to amaze.Unexpectedly saw a hummingbird sipping from a flower out back. There's just something magical and mystical about them, like a fairy tale come to life.
I get that sudden sense of wonder. First hummingbird I ever saw was flitting around the bushes in a San Francisco waterside restaurant and that was the last place I would have expected to see one. Took my breath away. Turned out it was much more memorable than the crab sandwich.Unexpectedly saw a hummingbird sipping from a flower out back. Are they not common out there? We have them all over the place here.Unexpectedly saw a hummingbird sipping from a flower out back. There's just something magical and mystical about them, like a fairy tale come to life.
