What made me unhappy today ?

A tax accountant does our returns. She saves us way more than enough to pay her fee. My husband and I are both capable of doing math (yeah, even me), but she knows tax law and comes up with deductions we'd have no way of knowing are available.
As an American expat of limited income, I know I owe no tax but must prove that annually. When my mother died I came into a paltry fortune that was nevertheless significantly more than my annual income. The tax accounting firm charged me roughly two weeks' pay to confirm that I owed Uncle Sugar nothing.

Better than me missing a line and losing the whole bunch or ending up in prison I guess.

Our income isn't great, but it comes from multiple sources, including businesses conducted from home. Too much scope for error if we tried to figure it all out ourselves.

We hired a tax accountant for the first time last year because of the home purchase. It cost about $500.00 CAD if I recall correctly.

Our first pick quoted $800.00 CAD as a base, for two working adults with one income source each. No house buying, no dependents, or anything else mentioned.

I get it. They are knowledgeable regulated professionals who have overhead and assume a degree of liability, so I won't claim it's unreasonable, but the sticker price was still shocking.

Policies about not selling/delivering alcohol to persons who appear intoxicated is based on the law, here in Ontario at least. It's also a major liability issue. The company could be sued for millions if the drunk person got even drunker and did something stupid like get in a big car wreck. Or incur damages/death from alcohol poisoning.

IIRC, in the UK, that applies on a licensed premises. So a supermarket can't sell you more alcohol if you appear visibly drunk, or a pub or bar can't serve you more alcohol if you are drunk (because, you know, people shouldn't be getting drunk in bars...).

However, my order contained no alcohol, so that was a non-issue.

My friend from college, who is a teacher now, says she chugs vitamin C and downs a handful of vitamins before class everyday.
Im considering working that into my mornings...

I already tried the "hey kids, lets do fist-bumps instead of hugs, ok?"
.... and then they rushed me to give fist-bumps AND hugs.
-sighs-

Core memory unlocked.... but oddly enough, i dont exactly know WHERE ive seen these things. Just that i HAVE
Parents stuck them on chemical bottles or other hazardous things so kids wouldn't drink them. We were supposed to see them and remember the song, "Mr. Yuck is mean, Mr. Yuck is green, something something," and stop ourselves from drinking bleach or windex.
