What made me happy today?

We have yellow-bellied marmots in the moutains here. I wrote a feature article on them once simply because I had taken some great photos on a trip into the Sierra Madres. Marmots are also called rock chucks.
So, how much rock could a ...

Sorry. I'll go back to my corner now.

Broke down and started writing my book again after a one-year hiatus. Really, I've just been too busy after working days for all these months instead of nights. Now that I'm retired, however, he we go...

Decided to scrap chapter 1 and start anew. This one should be a bit more entertaining and can straighten out a lot of problems. Also, I'm not sure the original one was too well-received. I feel better about this one, however.

The high was in the low 40's today with a beautiful blue sky and a 7 mile hike to explore the existence of a fabled beaver pond. I hiked up over the ridge behind the house and down into the next valley. I've been eyeing this pond on google earth for a year now and finally got the time to hike over there and see if its really there...and it is!! Then I broke out the stove and had some hot cocoa and a cup-o-soup in a clear-cut and the sunshine, watching the creek flowing by. I took a different route back that followed along the creek for a couple miles and saw some more stuff worth exploring next time.

All in all a great day in the woods. I am happy.

The high was in the low 40's

The high today is exactly 40, but not the same 40 as your 40. ;) 40 degrees for us Aussies is incredibly hot, about 104 F. I am staying indoors and keeping cool.

Tomorrow will be much cooler, but then Monday and especially Tuesday will be hot again - Tuesday will hit a high of 43 C (close to 110 F). 🥵 Even worse, I'll have to go to the office and back by public transport. I'm just praying it won't be humid as well.

So what's making me happy today? The fact that it's Saturday afternoon on a long weekend! And I finished all the housework! So now I can do some writing! ;)

*grabs his handy-dandy quill and dives into the mad, mad, mad, mad world of writing again* ;-P

I can't imagine anything being that cold. The coldest it gets where I live is maybe 1 or 2 degrees, which is roughly 35-36 F. (That's cold enough for me, thanks).

The wind chill factor makes everything much colder, but nowhere near -18 C. I can get by without insulated boots or mittens ... but gloves make winter much more bearable. :)

Cool photo! We live on the east side of a high ridge, which gives us a perfect view of fronts that come in from the north and northeast. One of the most interesting is seeing trees five miles away begin to shake, then watching the leading line of the front advance over the urban forest until it sweeps over us and changes the day in three seconds.

So ... I'm not sure if I should be happy or confused about this. Maybe both. ;)

I got up this morning and did the usual things: made the bed, went to the bathroom, weighed myself - 67.3 kg (~148.3 lbs). My healthy weight-to-height ratio means that 72 kg (~158 lbs) is the absolute limit, so that was fine.

Then I did the usual morning routine: brush teeth, wash hands and face, shave (I shave every day) ... and then, just for a goof, I weighed myself again.

This time, I was 66.8 kg (~147 lbs).

WTF?! Did I lose half-a-kilo (or about 1.3 pounds) just by shaving my face? :ROFLMAO:
