Word Counts and Updates

Farted around again this evening and only added 1,065 words to Talents by midnight, for a total of 11,794. Added a few more after 12:00 AM rolled up in my laptop system tray, but I'll apply those towards Monday's tally.

Considering what a procrastinator I am, it's a little weird to think I could pass the halfway point tomorrow, only a third of the month in. 25k is a very civilized goal.

I have not posted since last Monday, I think moving forward I will just post every Monday.
I am at 23079 of 25000 or 92% of my goal.
I was very excited about this month so I decided to take vacation days from Tuesday on last week. It worked out well for me. Each day I just wrote and paced in my basement. I have had so much coffee that my teeth are still chattering this morning. I am back at work to take a little break. I am going to take off from Wednesday on this week to knock out more.
I feel good at upping my goal to 50K. I worked on my outline when we first talked about doing the challenge this month. It paid off in spades. I had my main beta reader check out everything and he seems to be impressed so far.
I am an outliner and I have 63 chapters outlined for my story. Right now it looks like its going to be a 4 part series. The way I wrote in the past, I would work on the outline and then write whatever chapters I felt passionate about. I decided a few months back that I would concentrate on starting from the beginning. My goal is to knock out the first 12 chapters before the end of the year. I have 4 down and 8 to go. My first chapter I wrote was chapter 13, then I would jump arround a lot. My beta reader said he is happy that he finally can see the story naturally unfold instead of the constant jumps and explaining I would have to give him in the past.
Anyways, I have caught up on all the posts and its great to see everyone doing well. See you next Monday, maybe I can bang out two mor chapters this week.

If we handed out badges for the November Writing Thing I imagine you would get "Most Dedicated!" So many words!

Didn't write anything yesterday, decided to do some gaming instead. 1,438 words today though.

It turned out to be an important chapter. My MC meets someone who is pivotal to the story and this chapter sets the dynamic between the two of them. There are (I hope) a couple laugh out loud moments in there to help with that. I can throw out some zingers in conversation, but being funny in writing isn't my strong suit. My world is pretty dark, and I need some humor to balance things out, hopefully the funny bit's land like they are supposed to.

Even after taking a break yesterday, I am ahead of schedule.

11,960/30,000
~40% complete.

52,200 in hot metal so that's another 2.2k today... actually more than that because i went back and editted some too
The escaped cats thing? Is that the Nebraska one, or did I miss something?

yeah thats the nebraska story, animal rights loonies release a bunch of cats and other predators from a private collection not realising they've been mistreated and fundamentally have a pathological hatred of humans, unfortunately floods have taken out the only bridge out so the town's people are trapped... enter the reluctant hero Wolf in the shadows, a first nation Conservation Officer (as i understand Nebraska calls is fisah and game officers) with a broken marriage, a drink problem and more baggage than any man should carry... i'm not happy with how that was goingh 5k words in so i scrapped the manuscript, i'll start again when i've finished hot metal

the nebraska story
Oh, I LIKE that premise, and am ready to sign up for the preorder right now. Drink and a broken marriage sound like plenty of baggage for anyone, without extra little makeup cases and backpacks of the stuff.

21,035 out of 50,000. I'm sure as heck going to have some reorganizing to do at the end of November. Hard not to set myself about it right now, but... must... wait...

Sorry, should have checked in closer to midnight.

I added 1,100 words today, for a total of 12,894. Over halfway to 25,000.

I'll be slowing down a little tomorrow, perhaps. On the recommendation of a fellow Pennwriter, I've downloaded a 14-day trial of Aeon Timeline. I need to get my dates sync'd, especially where the novella I'm drafting shares events with the novel I'm about to publish.

I'm too tired and cold to figure out how to use Aeon tonight. We'll see how it goes in the morning.

It'd have to be a heck of a flood, because airboats. And yeah, I used to live near Fremont. Shopped there all the time.

And btw, in the US, we say "Native American"---"First Nation" is a Canada term. Though, having studied the matter, a guy like your reluctant hero would prefer to be known as a member of his own tribe. You've got several to choose from in Nebraska, so have at it.

Today's Wordcount: 1,623
Total: 10,221
Left to Goal: 14,779

Very happy with today's session, though it's going to need a lot of editing. It all is, but that's okay. I think we'll end up with about 120K that'll need editing down to 90K - better, 80K - if it's got any sort of chance with an agent. And I overwrite (very descriptive, especially with scenery) so some good cutting and line edits will be just what it needs.

But it has been a rough few days, and it's a struggle getting back into it. I'm not sure how tomorrow will go, but I've crossed the 10K line this month in just over 10 days, which is much much better than things have been lately! So we'll see how it all goes as we go on. Dark days don't make for good writing, in my own personal experience, though I know that's different for everyone. So I'll try and do some things to make tomorrow a little more positive, and we'll see what happens.
