A thread for posting your word counts and updates on the challenge. This can be done daily or however often you like. Feel free to include a small blurb about how the rest of your progress is going, aside from the work count. But please reserve longer entries or more in-depth discussions for your Progress Journals to get this one relative streamlined.

This thread will remain locked until the challenged begins on November 1st!

It begins! I don't imagine anyone wants to be the first to post an update, but somebody's gotta kick it off!

Today's Wordcount: 2,341
Left to Goal: 22,659

No one needs to read this bit, but I got so lucky today. I'm nornally up at 5 to get dressed and cram in half an hour's writing before the dog's awake. What with it being the weekend (and right after an immensely stressful week for my partner) she was still asleep when the dog and I got back from our walk, so I've probably racked up anpther 90 minutes. Definitely won't happen every day. It also helped that we had such a nice walk and met so many of the dog's friends out there. Very encouraging start to the day.

Incidentally, the chapter I've just wrapped up feeds so neatly into the next one (classic dramatic-cliffhanger-followed-by-immediate-resolution) that I thought about trying to keep going. But that's how we burn ourselves out, I guess!

That's me done for today, good luck to everyone giving this a go! Very excited to be a part of it with you all.

Good morning, very happy to be here. I've got a busy day with family today but will try to get in a few words! Tomorrow, however, I should have a good chunk of time to write and will make up whatever shortfall I don't reach today.

I've decided to work from my entry in the Chapter One contest - which is 1946 words. So reaching my overall goal should bring me to 16, 946

Will you share (in a general way, of course) where in the MT you write? I'm in Wyoming.
I'm a bit south of you, in New Mexico.

Speaking of writing, 1,242 words for day 1. Or 124% of my 1,000 words/day goal.

I decided to continue working on an urban fantasy story that I've had in the works for awhile, I'm 9 chapters and 15k words into it. I wrote a chapter yesterday and I changed from the MC's 1st person POV to an omniscient 3rd person POV. Taken in a vacuum, the 3rd person chapter wasn't bad, but my MC was still the center of the story. I wanted to do a little world building and give the reader some background on the MC, which the chapter does well enough. But when combined with the previous 8 chapters of 1st person, it doesn't work. So today's goal was to rewrite that chapter in the MC's 1st person POV. I'll just have to work the world building in at other points I guess.

I'll probably opt for a weekly update rather than daily, which strikes me as a little oppressive to my mindset. I got started today, 2134 words of what I thought would be the opening event but think now it may be placed second. I wrote without poring over it after every line, left things missing but figured I'd plough on. So I have that chapter started and finished but in need of serious bulk. It's very dialogue heavy, which carries the primary information, but seriously lacking in detail and writerly turns of phrase. When properly completed, I expect the finished chapter to be close on twice the length of what I have so far, if not more. Rather than add to it now, I'm going to move on to the next part and aim for a similar level of completion. I've never written anything that feels this raw without obsessively editing, typically ending up sometimes with fewer words than at the start of a writing session and very slow increments. This is a new experience and, all said and done, I have a start on something I've thought a lot about for the last long while. That's something more than nothing.

I just had one session today, then left home to soothe my soul, if one considers rugby a proper religion and Thomond Park its uppermost Cathedral. Munster beat Argentina in a fantastic game, which I enjoyed with 3 bro and 6 year old nephew. Pity Leinster Ireland couldn't repeat the performance of 2016 against the All Blacks in Chicago.

Almost 4,000 words a day is not my usual production rate. I just made a big jump today to make up for the inevitable brain-dead days ahead. The hardest part for me about these challenges is allotting a regular amount of time daily instead of working eight hours straight one day and fifteen minutes the next. There is no M anywhere in my name that might stand for Moderation.

That being said, I don't plan to knock myself out this month. September and October were full tilt boogies and I'm ready to not run quite so hard.

Wrote about 1600 words today for 4316 of 25000 words. My MC has more fire in her (hooray!), and I took some time to plan out the next steps in more detail after I stumbled into a plot hole.

Well done everyone on your opening salvos. I don't write weekends so I'll be kicking off tomorrow. I worked out my 15k goal over 20 working days gives me a target of 750 words per day. Feels doable, I'm excited.
I'm doing the opposite. Want a big burst on the weekend so I can chill a bit more during the week.

Crap, forgot to post last night, but day 1 went every well. I took the little thing I'd typed up in the Workshop, about 2400 words, and transposed it into Word. Not sure if that should contribute to "word count" or not but I did rewrite a good bit of it with an eye toward expansion and tacked on another K or so to get it to 3701 as of this morning. Going to blast out another sessions before football starts and will post again later.

Still aiming for 50K but not going to sweat it.
