Word Counts and Updates

Today and yesterday I added about 500 words. Up to 16074 of 25000 words.

This month is proving super useful for finding what I actually want to write about because the contrast between interesting and boring from one day to the next is so stark. Turns out I don't want to write what I thought I wanted to write about. The action scenes are boring me to death; I wrapped this one up with a long list of bullet points. I think I'll hop over to writing alien monologues and see what comes of that.

1,770 words today
14,938 total
Just shy of the halfway mark to 30k.

It's been 3'ish days since I've put pen to paper as it were, but I made good progress today. This is the most I've ever written on a project and I need to buckle down and keep the momentum going. The days that I do write, I average ~1,300 words, so breaking the 30k mark is very doable over the next 12 days.

33,515.

The last couple of days, the relentlessness of the pace has caused me to think about slowing up.

No, no. Naughty writer. You can rest when you're read. Play with the pain. Bite the bullet. Embrace the suck.

Onward, forward, strive, strive, and reach 50,000 words on the 25th. Eight... more... days...:coffee::coffee::coffee:😬✍️✍️✍️

(There are an amazing number of chipper cliches to encourage those who are flagging.)

First time I've checked in for a few days. The car issue is settled--- I hope and pray--- and I got some work in on the novella today (Monday) at school. Some people would say it wasn't actual work on it. What it was was me thinking out loud on the page about what the bad guys are doing behind the MC's back, even though they won't get a point of view.

It's the only way I can move forward with this thing. So dang it, I'm taking them: 1,019 more words for a total of 14,035.

Didn't get a chance to get on here much yesterday, so two days' worth to clock in:

Yesterday's Wordcount: 1,174
Today's Wordcount: 2,316
Total: 18,089
Left to Goal: 6,911

Somehow I now feel ridiculously close to hitting that goal, despite being in such a rut the last week or so. Longer? Anyway, the words are coming out. They may not be good, and most will need cutting, but they get me closer to the end of the story and that's the first step. In terms of the larger project, I'm coming up to 60K now - halfway. Goal is 120K which I know I'll need to cut down to 90 (I'm a huge overwriter in my first draft).

Great stuff, everyone! :)

Early morning writing today. 1190 words added to get to 17264 of 25000 words.

Alien monologues are going well! I went back to the original plan I had for the novel, the one I convinced myself out of a while ago when I thought it would be too strange. Well, I'm going with that gut feeling of what I think the novel should be instead of what would be easier for the reader and am just writing.

635 words of a Random Fanfic today. I wanted to write more Space Magic, but realized I need to take it slow. Because I am in the middle of the story and I want it to make logical sense. At the moment, I have a collection of things I want to happen, but I don't know what order. So, I decided to work on a fanfiction that is almost done. So close. I just need to figure out how to give the dying MC a couple extra days.

I'm going through beta feedback for an earlier project... shall i track how many words I cut, i wonder? 🤔
me: imma do some editing and trim this word count a bit
also me: -increases word count by about 847 words...-

(i've written more than that... cutting and adding here and there.... i stopped keeping track, honestly, after i finished that last chapter)

35,600.

That makes two slow 1000 word days in a row, but I don't feel too bad about it. Words produced are words produced, and I needed a break. Time to pick the pace back up, though. I'm scheduled for a Zoom meeting with a book club in northwest Arkansas tomorrow evening, a book signing at a store about 45 minutes from here on Saturday morning, and a memorial service on Saturday afternoon. Beyond that, I don't know of any reason not to apply butt to chair, fingers to keyboard, and mind to story.

Wrote about 1000 words and I'm now at 18300 of 25000 words. Only a quarter left!

I made a surprise nosedive into the topic of coding and debugging software when I described an alien brain taking over a robot body. That was not where I expected that to go.
